The Petit1 fountain pens are extremely cute!
RussA
I rec'd the blue-black, blue, and purple in the mail yesterday. They are very neat little pens. Although they are too small for my big hand, I plan to stock up to give out at Christmas. The full pack of 12 fancy colors is only $48 @ jetpens.com. I know the section screws out and there is a semi-soft plastic ink sac, but I have not heard if you can squeeze fill it.... I'm afraid to squeeze it too much while it is full. Do you know?

Thanks for posting the pics.

That is av ery cool pen.

1. What's the length posted?
2. What do they run in price, and where did you get them?
RussA
Kendall, I got mine at http://www.jetpens.com/index.php/cPath/21_82_70. They are about 5" posted and 4" capped. If you buy all 12 colors they come to $4 each, and individually $4.95 i think.

excellent - i'd heard about these but couldn't find them on-line. can you say "stocking stuffer"?

You can't squeeze fill it with an ink bottle. You have to buy specific refills to the Petit1 pens. I got also mines at jetpens. They don't have refills yet.

I bought the twelve pack for $48. I gave all of them away except the blue-black to people who I thought might want to try a fountain pen. I took the cartridge out of mine and filled it with Waterman BB from a syringe. Not as easy as just popping in a new cartridge, but it works and the pens are excellent writers.

A coffee straw should also work. I'm going to try to turn one of mine into an eyedropper.

I get my refills at Maido. (search for Maido for the phone number)

Any guess as to what they'd charge for postage for just one or two of these?

Just received a snail yesterday that was written with one.

TIA,
Ann

I'm trying to earn a free pen with enough referrals. But don't worry, they really are very good!

Hi moppie,

Thanks for sharing!

Are these pens tipped, or do they have plain untipped steel nibs?

TIA, warm regards, Wim
Larry T
Hi Wim. I'm not moppie, but I happened to have a Petit 1 setting on my desk. Yes it does have tipping material on the nib. The nib appears to be the same as the Varsity, in a finer size. I've already refilled the cartridge on one of mine. Great little jeans pocket pen.

Any chance someone will put a set of calipers on the gripping area and let us know what the diameter is? TIA
RussA
I get about 7/16" southpaw.

I have no idea what tipped or plain untipped really means. I'm just new to fountain pens. Larry helped you with this question already though. Thanks Larry.

Larry, how do you refill the cartridges?

The gripping area really isn't that plump at all. I like it because it's really cute and it's light!

Hi Moppie,

Tipping refers to the blob of metal at the end of a pen's nib. It could be made of iridium or other hard metals. Most pens are "tipped", but some are not...

P.S. Since you are new to the pen world, you might want to bookmark Richard Binder's excellent Glossary of pen-related terms (<----click to get to page)

P.P.S. Thank you, Richard, for this excellent reference material smile.gif

Moppy, I refill the cartridges with a syringe from a hobby store that is used to apply adhesives. Unscrew the section from the body of the pen, pull the cartridge, and refill from a bottle of ink. I refilled a blue-black pen with Waterman blue-black ink, so I didn't even bother cleaning the nib and feed. Works just fine, with no leaks.

yeah - i think it's a matter of proportions. The pen is fairly short I assume which makes the section look fatter by comparison?
Dillo
Hi,

By experience, It does not matter how short, but how wide the grip is. I know someone who likes it. 7/16 for a grip is way to wide for my hand.

oh... i didn't pay attention to the actual measurement given. Yup... too close to 1/2" for me, too.
RussA
Not knocking the little pen, as it is kind of a neat little pocket pen, but the gripping section affords no comfort. The diameter of the grip is not really the problem in my case. The gripping section is fairly short (at least for my fingers) and instead of a taper-to-barrel, there is a sharp step-up that is uncomfortable. It is still a neat little pen in spite of this design.
roisnoir
I made one of these into my first ever eyedropper this morning.
I smeared brake lubricant (it looks like earwax! Yuck! tongue.gif) on the threads, filled the barrel to the base of the threading, and screwed the section back on.

Then I had to run to the sink with it because I didn't put enough grease on and the ink was wicking up the threads! Whoops! So I wiped up the mess, grabbed a q-tip, and put more on there, and it's behaving itself now.

I've got it filled with Noodler's black, and it's writing well.

(It's a very good thing my roommate is still in Florida - I left the little clear container I squished the packet of goop into in the bathroom - she'd be utterly grossed out by the sight of it.)
