Full Version: Sheaffer Connaisseur Nib Replacement?
The Fountain Pen Network > General Pen Topics > Repair Q&A

I looked at a Sheaffer Connaisseur that hasn't been used for a long time, and was reminded why after looking closely at the nib. The slit is off center. With the nib pointed upward, the slit starts to the left of the point of the breather hole, and continues straight to the tip. With a very low power magnifier, the tip is obviously asymmetrical. The pen doesn't write badly, but it has never been as good as most of my other pens. I have learned enough on FPN to make significant improvements in writing quality of my other pens except for this one. What are my options?

Are replacement nibs still available? Can this be adjusted out be one of the masters? Do I have just have to live with it?

I'd suggest contacting Sheaffer ASAP before they completely shut down Fort Madison. Replacement nibs most likely are still available as, iirc, the nibs on the Connaisseur are the same as the ones on some of the newer Balances. It's worth a shot.

Talk about overlooking the obvious!

Thanks, I've sent them an email.

Might be easier to get a Balance II nib which is a straight fit, just depends on if you like the 'shaped' section of the Balance II, if you are used to the original section it can look a bit strange at first.

The low rent option is a No Nonsense nib/section which is also a straight fit, but somehow doesn't 'do it' for me.
