Thanks but I don't have a clean empty ink bottle, the closest thing I have is a bunch of really old Mont Blanc ink bottles that still have ink in them.
(edit: Oops, I pressed "submit post" too soon.)
A clean, dry custard dish? Then put the leftover ink back into the bottle.
Yeah, right, maybe not. I think we all need a solution to this.

What sort of solution are you speaking of? I can't speak to the merchant you chose to use, but the merchant I used when I bought my 4.5 ounce bottle made it pretty clear this container wasn't going to be suitable for filling most pens out of. There are a ton of potential solutions that range from just using the 4.5 ounce bottles to fill eyedropper pens to using other containers for your pen filling needs, but I'm not sure you can really do much to change the bottle itself if that's what you're getting at. I can say that the little ink exchange vials you can get work really nicely for pen filling. That's probably what I'll use when I want legal lapis in my non-eyedroppers.
Where can I get these little ink exchange vials that you speak of. Are they really good for filling piston type pens?

Check the "Welcome to the ink exchange program" thread at the top of this forum. I think the vials are something like ten cents each plus postage. I don't think there is a problem with you buying them but not exclusively using them for ink exchanges. I will say that ink exchange can be fun, though. I've only done one, but I got what I hope will be some nice colors while sharing some good ones I had with another user.
I have only one piston fill pen, but they work perfectly for filling it. In fact, that's the only way I have ever filled my piston filler.
