Hi. I came here out of frustration. I was looking for answers relating to my old Lamy Safari. It has started leaving ink all over my hands recently. I loved that pen. It wrote some great stories. Let it take you for a walk and good stuff happens on a page. Now my hands are splotched blue.
Anyway, here I am. Any hope for my Lamy?

I'm not a Lamy person, but I can say welcome to fellow Californian.

I'm still wondering how to get some help with my pen.
Is there a fix for it? Should I trash it? I love my pen.
Oh well...

Hello and welcome. Maybe you can provide some more information that would enable us to better advise you regaridng your Lamy. Do you notice ink on the pen? if so, what part? the nib, or its junction with the section? Farther up where the nib screws into the barrel? Do you use cartridges or converters? Have you recently switched inks, either brand or system (ie., going from cartridge to converter?) It's possible that either a cartridge or converter is defective, for instance, or possibly was not inserted correctly and that ink is leaking as a result. I'm not saying this is what happened, but it is possible. Without knowing more, it's impossible to say exactly what's wrong. Of course, the Lamys are inexpensive enough that another one (in a different color, perhaps) wouldn't break the bank.

Where is the ink actually coming from?
Partly repeating what James said:
Have you refilled it lately? From a bottle?
Is it possible you dipped it past the section and have remnants of ink leaking out from where the barrel and the section screw together?
Or is there ink in the groove around the end of the section near the nib?
Is the O-ring still in place?
Is there a crack in the section?
Is the converter or cartridge leaking if you unscrew the barrel?
I once dropped a pen (not a Lamy) and the converter snapped clean across, and some converters and cartridges dislodge easier than others.
Again, this could result in ink leaking from the around that plastic O-ring where the grip section and the barrel screw together, or out from the ink view windows in the side of the barrel.
Another common thing to check: has ink leaked into the cap? If this has happened, you might get ink on the section each time you recap the pen, and from there onto your fingers when you write. I had this happen once with a Lamy Safari - I kept wondering where the ink on my fingers came from , but the problem stopped after I cleaned out the inside of the cap. You can get minor versions of this if the end of the nib touches the inside of the cap when capping or uncapping.
Are you storing it nib up ? (rather than nib down when not in use or overnight, which can result in ink dripping into the cap)
Sometimes a pen with too airtight a cap seal will result in ink being pulled into the cap by suction as you uncap the pen.
Oh, and welcome to FPN!
Regards, Myles.

Welcome to FPN, qwiksilver!
How funny, I just noticed yesteday my two or three year old Lamy Safari was wet around the section where the nib plugs in, the cap had ink in it too. I keep it stored at a slight nib-up angle, so I was puzzled as to why this might happen. I have cleaned it up, have been running Noodler's black in it all along. I think the pen only cost me $20, so I hope the solution is cheap!
I had a similar problem with an Esterbrook A101 and sent it off to Richard Binder. He believes the osmiroid nib (which I loved) was the problem - too small for the Estie.
