I want a seriously blue blue. I have a pantone book and I can give a reciepe for what I am envisioning but what I see in my minds eye is this.

Can you remember the kind of deep rich red glossy lipstick that you see in an old movie? Convert that to blue. Like a navy blue, no ,
between a royal blue and a navy blue but as rich as the color in the lipstick.

I want to try a private reserve color 1St but after that I game to try anything.

Any ideas

I believe you would want PR DC Supershow Blue (or, alternatively, American Blue). thumbup.gif

Ya, PR American Blue!

Ditto, on either DC-Super or America blue. They're as blue as blue can be..

There are some great blue blues out there in the marketplace, especially the ones listed above. There are also a lot of greenish blues and purplish blues. The problem is that the blue blues are neither waterproof nor fadeproof, and some of them (notably the PR inks) are slow to dry and prone to smear.

I find this an interesting resource when thinking about inks. I know that the reproduction on the monitor won't be the same, but I love fiddling with it anyway! Does anyone know of anything similar out there?

My favorite blue is now Visconti Blue. It is similar in color to PR American Blue or DCSS Blue but without the long dry times and smearing. It is also fairly water resistant. It is not available in stores but is available online in plastic bottles.

It's hard to say what a blue blue is. Diamine Royal Blue is a true blue but it is light, having a turquoise cast. Waterman blue and Aurora have a violet cast. Sailor blue is greyish. Probably Pelikan/Cross blue is the most true blue, and is cheap and readily available.

What's the Pantone number?

I ask because the suggestions would vary depending on the what the swatch says about your personal preference (e.g., a slightly purply intense blue like, say Reflex Blue on coated stock).

Caran d'Ache's Blue Sky is very nice.
I picked it up yesterday. I will post a handwritten review tonight.

PR DC supershow Blue would be my choice too!!

Go to pear trees website, you can try four different blues for four dollars with the sampler, system there, that way you can try some in your pens and see how they appear on the paper you are going to write on before you buy a bottle.

Fantastic! I've not seen that site before, and it a lovely way to compare the nuances of shading! Great recommendation!

I would agree with PR American Blue, and would add Noodler's Blue (yes, I know many people consider it a tad turquoise but not me).

PR DC supershow Blue would be my choice too!!

Don't confuse though with DC Supershow Electric Blue (that's a dark blue).

I got PR American blue and purple mojo today from Bertram's. The salesman was excellant. I am about to do my first ink change outs. I hope I dont make to much of a mess

I love J. Herbin's Bleu Myosotis!

PR DC Supershow was my favorite until I discovered Omas Blue. Omas Blue is for me the "oerfect" blue. DC Supershow has slightly more black to it when compared to Omas; neither has a violet or green hint.

The ink sampler at peartree.com is very useful. It can save a fortune.

I would second Visconti blue.
It's a great fairly dark blue with no green or grey hues. A blue blue.

IMO it is only remotely like Americen Blue or DCCS Blue. It's darker and more old fashioned. The ink is well behaving. No problems with the Visconti so far. It is my favourite blue.

Because of the plastic bottles it is affordable.
