Hello world,
Alex here from NYC. I have owned some cheap fountain pens for years now but only began getting serious about them quite recently, upon my discovery of the vintage market. I am a visual artist and draw with dipping and technical pens, but I also enjoy calligraphy and creating symmetrical ornamentation by working simultaneously with both hands.
a little about my writing history...
I learned to write with my right hand, but have always used my left for throwing and catching... I started several years ago in high school to write with my left hand and have become quite comfortable with it. I am at the point now that I don't even think about it... I will be writing or drawing and only after awhile will I realize that I am using my left hand...which ever hand finds the pen first is the one i use.
I regularly practice writing with both hands, at first I would mirror the the movements of my right with my left...(forwards with my right hand and backwards with my left)

after I had become comfortable with that I began writing forwards with my left and backwards with my right

now I can write

which yields some pretty interesting results
I find working from the shoulder and keeping a light and relaxed hand and arm are the most important things... once you have learned to control both of your arms equally as well the mirroring comes very easily...and what are movements besides a control signal being sent from the brain? I truly believe if you have patience and concentrate you can do anything!!
