Hi,
In my quest to buy ink, I also wanted to get the most special ink bottles. In the lead were the two German companies; Lamy and MontBlanc.
I got a Lamy BlueBlack. I wanted to get an iron gal ink so this took care of this container.
I intended to get a MontBlanc Violet. I had heard nice critics about this color, it seemed dark enough, and I do not have anything in this type of color...
... until I realized that violet only comes in cartridges...
So, back to square one. I want a MontBlanc ink. I would like to get what could be considered their nicest color. Only rules:
-No black, I have enough, and don't use them often
-No BlueBlack. I have plenty of those too!
-No scented. I want ink, not perfume (and I think they are not in the same containers)
There you go. Any recommendations?
Thanks

I think the Racing Green looks very nice, and may buy it myself. The Bordeaux and the Sepia both look a little pastelly/washed out, and you don't want the season's greetings brown. Go green! Then post a review and make me buy it.

The blue is a nice shade; I like it.
But, I have Lamy Blue on the desk, so I usually reach for that.

Swisher Pens carries bottled Montblanc Violet.
Swisher PensAre you sure? Have you ordered it?
I ask because it is in the drop down list, but it is also said in the page "NOTE: Check colors at www.montblanc.com" and montblanc does not have violet in bottles.

I got mine from Swisher's. The note refers to seeing samples of the colors, not availability. I have both the Racing Green and the Violet. The ink reviews here are pretty accurate, so I'd recommend checking them. If you're really not sure after seeing them, PM or email me your snail mail address and I'll send you a written sample of each. Good hunting!

I also got my bottle of MB Violet from Swisher. If nothing else, pick up the phone and confirm that they have it or can get it.
The color is lovely. It is a dark, saturated purple that is what I thought the FPN LE Tulipe Noire would be. (Don't get me wrong, I like the Tulipe Noire a lot and I will buy more. But it is more lavender than I expected.)
By the way, the MB bottles are very useful.

Thanks all.
I'll have to investigate why other stores don't seem to have it, and ordering at Swisher if my local score cannot get it.
I may still go with the racing green. Starting to be curious!

I personally like their Bordeaux and a F nib with strong flow. Hard to beat the color and shading.

Another vote for racing green. A nice color conservative enough for any job but interesting none the less.

I bought my violet in a bottle from Penboutique.com and Fountain Pen Hospital also carries it. The violet is a wonderful ink!
My favorite ink in the world right now is the bordeaux. Yes, it's slightly washed out, but it looks like red wine on the paper. Now you can't go wrong with that. I also see that washed out look as a hue that I like to call "ink noir." Getting carried away, I know.
My vote, however, goes for the green. Why? Because I generally dislike green ink, but I love the racing green that a friend of mine has. What a great color. Oh, and it also has the noir quality to it.
Go Green!

I quite like the MB Racing Green as well. It looks almost black until it dries, then it has a rich green to it. I also have the Sepia, which is not a bad ink, I guess. I just don't really like brown(ish) inks.

I like the Racing Green. Tasteful and well behaved. In fact, I just bought another bottle of it last week.
I have the regular green, turquoise, Season's Greetings (spice version) and they are okay but not my favorites.
