Just got back a Sheaffer Legacy with stub nib that I sent to Michael Masuyama. I am very happy!

Michael smoothed the nib, reground it to what he calls a cursive italics (terminology varies from expert to expert and manufacturer to manufacturer, it seems, when it comes to classifying a nib as a "stub" or a "cursive italics"). It is now a joy to write with.

Something I liked was that he looked carefully at my nib, told me what he saw and why it was not behaving the way I wanted it to. He then made a recommendation based on what I had told him about my experience with fountain pens in my initial e-mail. In other words, he actually listened!

His fees were great. Turn-around time was 10 days. What I mean is that I received the newly smoothed and ground pen ten days after I first put it in the mail (from California to Georgia).

In my last e-mail, Michael indicated that he can smooth, grind, fix flow problems, but was not, at the moment, able to re-tip nibs. So, he not only gave me names of people who could, but provided hyperlinks so that I could contact them easily.

I have used others for nib work and could, from personal experience, recommend them: Richard Binder, John Mottishaw, and Greg Minuskin. However, it occurs to me that while these nibmeisters' names often are seen here, Michael Masuyama isn't mentioned much. When he is mentioned, however, it seems to always be with glowing praise. I want to add mine.

His website is: http://www.MikeItWork.com. I have no affiliation, but think he should get greater notice.

I have had similar very positive experiences with Michael. He is good, fast, and his services are fairly priced. He really wants to make the nib work for the customer. I've got two pens on the way to him right now.

I'm glad to hear of another pen servicing expert churning out great testimony, while having a reasonable wait time! He was at the NY/NJ show, but I missed him. Hopefully he'll be at the Philadelphia show in a few months. smile.gif
