Elo, Octopian Greetings,
I'm Ahmad Abdulkawi. I'm from Cairo, Egypt. I didn't notice any Egyptian members, maybe I'm the first one. Is there anybody out ther??!
I came to know fountain pens, when I was going through old pens that belonged to my grandfather (I think). I really enjoyed writing with one or two of them, specially one, that I later found out to be a Parker 51.
By searching, I found that I have;
Parker 51 (four of them)
Parker 61
Parker 21
Parker Vacumatic (belonged to my grandfather, and had his name engraved on the side)
Sheaffer Lifetime
Sheaffer Touchdown
Sheaffer desk-pens
Eversharp desk-pen
My knowledge of what pen is which is very crude. Hopefully, I could improve it.
I didn't use all of the pens, and I don't think I can, because some of them are not in a very good shape. Some I think have broken parts in their filling mechanisms. Sad isn't it?
Recently, I thought I'd finally buy myself a new Parker, basically because I used them and enjoyed using them, and because Parker now has a sentimental family heirloom like value. I bought a Parker Frontier, stainless steel with chrome trim. I don't like gold. I bought a Quink blue-black bottle. I've always used the Pelikan 4001 blue-black, and I love it' color, I'm yet to try Quink, so you can imagine, that now I'm writing anything on any piece of paper to finish the blue cartridge that came with the pen.
I'm so glad there's a site like this! So I can learn. It's such a great site, and the members are contributing heavily and usefully. Too bad here in Egypt, fountain pen paraphernalia are not readily present. There are some fancy pen brands, and we have good stationary shops, but not shops that specialize in pens!! How annoying.
Nice to be here : )
End of line.
