Hello all, I have been looking into this site for a while now as a second option to the Pentrace site. I have been posting there for a few months now and had been really enjoying myself.

I have not given up on the 'trace, but just thought that it would be a nice break to come over here for a bit and see how this site is run.

I have been using Fountain pens since about April 05 and now have at least 10 or so in regular rotation. These range from a Parker 51, a couple of Pelikans, a Franklin eyedropper, a Black Vacumatic to a MB 146 I just received this past Friday.

I love to putter on pens and have become quite adept at Vacumatic diaphragm replacements as well as Sheaffer Snorkel rebuilds. I recently replaced the cork in a friends Moore Non Leakable that was an absolute joy to work on.

As for my writing style, well, I really don't have one. I would love to learn some flex nib writing, hence the Franklin eyedropper. I am a bit handicapped in that I am a lefty so it is a nice challenge to work up to posting some writing samples here possibly.

Pleased to meet you all,

SMG

Greetings SMG,

Yep, one must keep their options open, nowadays. I still read the GB over on PT, but gave up on the YB a couple of weeks ago. sad.gif Just more than I felt like coping with. Once you are comfortable with what's necessary to navigate this board, the banter here will easily replace that on the YB. smile.gif No argument, though, the GB is still the place to buy and sell pens and related products. Someday, the "Marketplace" on this board may achieve parity with the GB, but that's down the road a bit.

Sounds as though we came into the interest about the same time. You have, however, achieved much more than I in repair skills. About all I have accomplished is good smoothing ability to the point where I'll put the film to any nib, no matter how expensive and noteworthy, with the confidence that it'll be better after I'm finished with it. :bunny1:

Sit with us for a spell and enjoy.

Hi SMG and welcome to FPN! biggrin.gif

Nice to have you on board. I always tell people that Pentrace is a great source of information and that there are some really nice people that frequent the site. It's too bad that there is a lot of animosity being vented at a few people through anonymous postings. I hope that will peter out eventually sad.gif

Now, it sounds like you tackled the more difficult pen repairs first! biggrin.gif Good for you!
Did you post something about the Moore cork replacement on Pentrace because it sounds familiar...

Howdy SMG and welcome to the place where owning a 1,000 pens is never enough!! biggrin.gif
I am sure you will like the crowd here very much as I do.

I have a few Sheaffer Snorkels that I really like. Cleaning up some of these vintage pens can be a real time consuming process, but if you have the book: "Fountain Pens The Complete Guide To Repair & Restoration" by Frank Dubiel, it's one of the best resources anyone could own, who has interest in repairing or restoring classic pens.

Welcome to another Canadian! Glad you found us. Although our collections differ greatly, we started using FPs about the same time. Neat to see the different ways people go. See you around!
