Hi All -

I've been trading FP-friendly papers with people, and a kind gent from Europe sent me a sample of Landre's "Briefblock." When I saw this gray-ish looking sheet I was skeptical ... most of the obviously recycled paper that I've seen here in the US is not suitable for FPs - feathering, bleed through, etc. But the Briefblock was something else. Smooth, thin, light, no feathering, and it doesn't have that bleached over-manufactured look.

I did a quick Google check and it looks like it's only available in Europe. Does anyone know of a source here in the states?

If not, does anyone know of a decent FP-friendly paper that has the recycled look?

Sincerely,

Yumbo

Any idea where in Europe this originates from? I am looking for something similar myself

I have come across a very nice 100% recycled looseleaf paper made here in Canada (also available in the States, possibly Europe, as well). It is almost white (creamy), rougher texture (might bother some people, I happen to like it), but zero feathering with all of the inks I have tried. It bleeds through very slightly when I use a broad nib, but with my F and M nibs, it is minimal and doesn't bother me. I liked it so much that I drove around Calgary one Saturday and purchased every package I could find. Not easy, as Calgary has over 1,000,000 people these days. Anyway, the lines are approximately J.Herbin Verte Olive coloured and this paper looks spectacular with green ink.

They also have notebooks made out of similar paper. www.ecojot.com

No affiliation, I just really dig this paper and this company so far.

It is made in Germany by Landré Gmbh Papierwarenfabrik. Its address is: D-31022 Gronau (Leine).

I'm going to email them tomorrow morning.

Someone already mentioned Ecojot and I second that recomendation, also I like Neenah's Enviroment line (100% Post Consumer, Chlorine free, 100% green energy) it is white 24lb. paper that takes ink well.

edited to add Neenah's web address:
www.neenahpaper.com

also added at same time:
Environotes (Roaring Springs) is decent cheap recycled paper with show through but no feathering or bleedthrough with fountain pens and dip pens it is approx. 16lb. notebook paper

If anyone wants to try a few pages of ecojot, PM me and I can send you some. Again, no affiliation, I just want to ensure that they sell enough to stay in business and keep me in good recycled paper for years to come.

I really like the writing pads sold in this German online store, especially their own brand ones shown on the page I linked, and I use them almost exclusively. There are ruled ("liniert") and square-ruled ("kariert") pads, and there's never any bleedthrough and the paper is very smooth. They also sell journals in various sizes (ruled, unruled, square-ruled). However I'm not sure you could order in English and how much they'd charge you for shipping - maybe you could ask them in an e-mail (address: info@memo.de)? If you run into language problems, I can help you if you like - just PM me. (I could also send you some samples or even a whole writing pad).
Nellie

edited to say I just noticed that they also sell Landré writing pads (square-ruled) here.
