Greetings,
I like matching sets in pens so I got a ball point pen to go along with my CS 58 in that beautiful deep cherry red color. Anyway, the cartridge in the ball point pen ran out of ink so I picked up a Parker gel refill that is an exact match in every dimensional way to the CS cartridge.
I unscrewed the cap of the 58 ball point, removed the old cartridge, and put the new cartridge in its place. I screwed the cap back on and - and the cartridge floats loose in the body of the pen. OK, I thought, it's not an exact fit. So I put the old cartridge back into the pen and - and the cartridge floats loose in the body of the pen!
Now I'm confused. I do not remember a spring falling out of my pen, but I made a thorough search all around my sitting area and no spring. I was going to go to the box with the directions/insert, but I've got about 14 CS boxes and they're stacked in a hard to get to place, so I thought I'd post here.
Does anyone know how to help me? It has to be something simple. I know that the cartridge is an exact replacement. Did I lose a spring and just not find it? Or is there some special way to insert the cartridge?
I don't use ball point pens all that much, but I was going to a place where I needed a ball point for duplicate forms. So if anyone can give me some help, I'd surely appreciate it.
Peace,
Phroneo

Conway Stewart's ballpoint instructions are online -
http://www.conwaystewart.com/care_ball.php...44c1590d65ad697 doesn't look like it's any different to fitting a ballpoint refill in any other pen. It does point out not to lose the spring

Can I suggest finding a pen with a 'Manifold' nib?

Hi Phroneo
The pen should have a spring inside. If you have lost it I would try a spring from a cheap parker as they are the same refil.
Good hunting

I own a CS 58 BP - a Le Tigre. It holds a Visconti refill, happily and easily. No tricks, no magic - it's just like any other ballpoint. Insure that you have a spring, about an inch long. You may need to place it on the tip of the refill.
Also, BTW, you probably don't want to use a Parker gel cartridge. They are reported to leak, and I'd sure hate to mess up my CS that way. Alternatives are Visconti and Itoya liquid gels in various widths and colors.

That's my option when doing triplicate forms

Thanks, guys.
It appears from your comments that I lost a spring.
I've done a really thorough search around the area that I must have lost it, but to no avail. It looks as if I'll have to take the suggestion to buy a cheap ball point and use that spring.
Oh, well.

Hi,
Sorry for my late reply .... The ball pen should have a spring and I know by experience the springs can travel quite a distance when you are looking for them!
I have a spare spring here in my office and can send you one through the mail. Please contact me with your address.
Kind regards,
Mary Burke
