I have been out of the fountain pen scene for a couple of years and am getting back into pens, reading about pens, etc. When I check the sites for Pen World and Stylus magazines I see that they are taking subscriptions, but neither site shows that they have put out an issue since late summer 2007.

Anyone out there have a subscription to either of these magazines? Are they still in print?

Are there any other pen magazines out there that I can read?

Thanks-

Rich

Rich:

I've been able to find both at my local Borders.

Same here, and I have also seen them at one of the local pen sellers.

I used to get both but tired of the same content in both issues and all the ads. So i just go to my library and read them now.
Saves money for pens and ink!!!

Hi Rich,
In December, I just got a 2-year subscription to Stylus + a free copy of their 2007 pen annual (softcover) for $55 USD (and I live in Canada! ohmy.gif )....That's about half the cover price per issue plus I get the annual for free. Not bad!

I wish I had done that. I picked up the Stylus 2008 Pen Annual from Borders yesterday, and found it to be a big waste of money. Beautiful photography and slick presentation, but it costs $25 for what is really just a big collection of ads.

Where in Borders are you guys finding these magazines? I've looked all over. Which section should I examine? Hobbies? Art? Culture? I guess I'm too much of a guy to ask for help from the clerks. headsmack.gif

Yes, you should ask the clerk. They stash the magazines in odd places.

I'd like a VINTAGE-only pen magazine. I find that most are victims of the manufacturers, so basically have articles that are rehashes of their advertising clients. It would be cool to find one -- especially with a major on-line presence, since I don't like buying extra paper that's just going to add to landfill space -- which didn't ballyhoo the new creations, but instead had articles about the old ones. And pictures, of course.

Both Stylus and Pen World are given away free at Paradise Pen.

Hi,

I cannot read Arabic but I picked up a magazine in Arabic on pens- 'Pen.Me' at a weekly secondhand book bazar just to ogle at the pics of the fountain pens in it. We don't get any pen magazines or books on fountain pens in India. Last month however I found Cartier's 'Creative Writing', full of fountain pen pics and stuff.

Does anyone from the Antipodes know where I might pick these up in Perth, Australia? If not, then buying them may be an internet jobbie.

The Pennant is the magazine published by the PCA, and has developed into a first rate publication. There are 3 issues per year, and the content is exclusively vintage. Historically, there has been sturm und drang about publication deadlines, photo credits, and personalities. This seems to have stabilized, and the magazine on a steady course.
Check it out:

Best to all,

They are in the magazine rack next to the watch and the photography magazines. My local Borders usually has only three each of both Pen World and Stylus, so some locations may not order any at all. They had a bunch of the 2008 annual, though.

Some stores that sell pens have also have old issues of Stylus or Pen World on hand, can't sell them, and will give the magazines away just to get rid of them.

I was at the Park Meadows outlet of Paradise Pen. I didn't even see a copy of either magazine, let alone get a free copy. This was two weeks ago. I suppose they might have been out of them, though.

Odd, I didn't see them; and, believe me, I wandered all over the store. Sadly, all I ended up buying was some Private Reserve ink. I would have loved to have gotten either magazine if I had seen it.
