Very nice Denis.
It brought tears to me eyes. sniff.

That's cool Denis! I must have missed a thread about how you're doing this, but I'll look. wink.gif

Very nice yet again. Here's the link for any who missed the first one:

Waterman Ink Bottle "LE" (more like "DR")

How about some specifics on what you used, specifically the glass etching cream?

Oh so pretty...

But L.E. goes so well with Waterman biggrin.gif

I use that stuff. It works very fast (few minutes). For this bottle, I used one of my wife's paper puncher to cut the maple leaves from scotch tape.

Next, I'll check Michael's for colouring waxes to rub in the etched glass. But that will most likely be in a few weeks, when I am back from my "OOooo.. look at that car how brightly it burns !!!" vacation laugh.gif

I forgot... of course this one is dedicated to all FPNers from the Great North biggrin.gif

Whoa! Great picture! And great work, etching the glass - that frosted look is smooth. I think the Waterman is my favorite, so far.

I like the -- I think the word is "composition" -- of this picture. Not to mention the color (or lack of). Very nice.

Very nice. I would have assumed you beadblasted it. I didn't know such etching cream was available at art stores. I like the effect.

Thanks Bruce. Yes, that product is really handy; no need for protective gear, and I can do it on my desk without making a mess. smile.gif

Thanks t! I wish I had cleaned up the pieces of tape and other residues from the desk. My wife says it gives it a style though laugh.gif

Don't mean to sound like a parent, but if that cauldron is still boiling when you get there, keep a very clear path, very far away from the trouble sites! huh.gif

Agreed with everyone -- that rocks, Denis! Both the Canadian Noodler's bottle and the Waterman one! As for the dedication for us Canadian FPNers...thanks from up here!

Cheers,
Jimmy.

Well, I'll try, but my grand-mother lives in the neighbourhood where it all started, ten to twenty minutes drive from where I grew up and will stay. The main concern will be to make sure that whichever car we borrow is always parked inside at night... just in case the thing spreads some more.

Looking at the bright side, there's gonna be a little market bubble for car dealers in the area in the coming weeks rolleyes.gif
Maja
Have a safe trip, Denis! smile.gif

(When are you leaving?)
Denis Richard
Thanks Maja. We're leaving tomorrow morning.

I was checking Air France website to find the phone number to confirm our flight and I read this on the front page :

The mood in France is warm as towns and cities throughout the country gear up for the annual Christmas markets.

Indeed... warm laugh.gif

Bon Voyage, and drive safely!

Denis, this etching cream really intrigues me. Glass is some pretty inert stuff. Do you know if it works on metal as well? Like say, titanium? rolleyes.gif Looks like it could be better than beadblasting because your masking material can be a lot thinner. It takes some really nasty acid to etch titanium, but I think it's the same hexafluoride stuff that eats glass. Hmm...

Hi Bruce,

the label says that it contains Ammonium/Sodium Bifluorides and the first label speaks of treatment specific to hydorfluoric acid.

It states that it does not etch plastic and some Pyrex. Here is the website of the manufacturer, where you should be able to contact them about other applications.

Hope this helps.

Denis.

I'll say it once again. You have something nice on your hands that you could potentially turn into a small side business venture, assuming you are into such things.

As a bonus, imagine going to all these pen shows as a VENDOR of your super-fancy ink bottles. Remember, Winedoc has been able to do it on the side. You could too with these bottle smile.gif

Hi Denis,

Just be careful not to get thsi stuff on exposed skin. Hydrofluoric acid eats away calcium (bones!) as well, and just penetrates through skin without a problem. Very nasty stuff, and the treatment for exposure to this stuff is rather nasty too...

In the geology lab we used it to extract fossil pollen from rock samples; it dissolves anything but carbon-based materials, and is very agressive.

Warm regards, Wim
