Full Version: Need help with a leaking gasket on my Parker 75

I have a Parker 75 in sterling cisele that was given to me by my father many years ago and I recently have put it back to use. The pen is in excellent condition and the nib (Parker M 14K gold) is very smooth and writes beautifully.

After cleaning it thoroughly with warm water to clean old ink residue, I realized that the pen has two problems:
-the the gold-color ring on the plastic section just above the nib is slightly raised and actually can be moved around
-the plastic gasket of the plastic section onto which the nib section is attached has a small crack through which tiny droplets of ink are released and accumulate around the gold-color ring.

I wonder if the repair is as simple as getting a replacement plastic section tube which I can replace or if a more complex process is required. Also I would like to get an ink convertor while I am at it. Any recommendations and references of providers of parts/repair will be appreciated.
I have made a few photos (apologize for the poor quality) to illustrate my problem.
Thank you and regards.

Some sources of converters were mentioned in this thread in the Parker75 forum:

Another source for converters is here:

Also on this page it shows replacement sections for leaking french Parker 75s similar to what you have - except I think you have an older section (wide gold band) that takes a thin feed nib while the sections at Parker75.com are for thick feed nibs.

David, thank you very much for you recommendations.

I found in the Parker 75.com Reference where they have photos of the 2 sizes of feed tobes on the nibs.

The reference book is here:
http://www.parker75.addr.com/Reference/Parker75_Ref.htm
You will have to scroll down through the index on the left and click on 'Section' and then scroll down to the bottom of the 'Section' section on the right.

You have the earlier thin feed nib. Sections and nib plus section sets in this earlier configuration are hard to find. I wanted a thin nib so I bought an NOS Parker 75 Insignia ,ostly just to get the old style nib plus section.

The movable section ring and cracks in the section both point to a common problem with the Parker 75 section, where the plastic will crack under the ring. Ink goes onto your fingertips, and accumulates around the top of the nib.

Unfortunately, the only cure I know of is to replace the section, and since Parker stopped making them, they've started to get scarce. You have a "thin stem" nib, and need a section to hold it. Online dealers seem to be out of them (but check http://www.parker75.com and http://www.nibs.com), so eBay may be your only hope.
