I went to a local antique mall today and had a pretty good haul, mostly Sheaffers, but I found one Eversharp for $12 that got the better of me. Pics attached. Despite the "stalactite" form factor, at first I thought it might not be a real Skyline because I hadn't seen them in solid colors, the clip didn't extend above the cap-end band, etc, but looking in the pinned "reference library" in this forum, David Nishimura's first group pic has one very much like it. Jim Mamoulides' Pentrace Article (fourth image, leftmost pen) solved another mystery for me: the nib just marked "Eversharp / Made In USA"---no gold marking, although I'd bet it is gold (as well-loved as it looks, plating would surely have brassed), and it has a handsome tipping. The article said this kind of nib is typical of "inexpensive models"?

But anyway, wanted to ask for y'all's expertise. Is there anything more I should know about this pen? Did I get a good deal? ^_~

FYI, the subtlety of the color doesn't come through in the photo. In person it's a very very dark sort of black-burgundy, and the tip of the cap is slightly lighter chocolate brown (or maybe a little lighter burgundy; it's right where it's hard to tell).

Fox,

Check out this recent exchange on Streamliners. It's a gold nib & $12 is a very nice price.

Only a Skyline has that shape. It appears you have one with a firm nib. If you plan on resacing, be gentle. The barrels can be brittle.

Streamliner! Cool! I felt that it was a good deal without having to ask.

Jinnayah and I were joking about the unmarked gold nibs that maybe they used 10K or 12K and didn't want to admit it. ^_~ The nib is what I really fell in love with, even though it's not pretty to look at so much.

It did need a new sac. The sacs are on order, but I got the old one off and measured it... It came apart pretty easily, but... Any tips for getting sacs on around the breather tube...?

Don't worry about 'how' on the resac. It is so simple after the first time or two you won't even think about it any more. If you think you might have a problem, you could try putting a bit of dish-washing liquid on the nipple of the section and play with fitting the sac. After you see how easy it is, clean and let all parts dry and assemble with shellac.

Like so many things, resaciing is only a 'new', not difficult, experience. The apprehension is natureal.

I've resacced a few pens (few enough that it's still kind of a thrill ^_~ ), just never one with a breather tube like this. It means I can't flop the sac all around getting it on, but I'll manage. I just wondered if there was any trick to it.

Coincidentally, I examined this identical pen in an antique mall today. I had planned on posting an inquiry this evening but you provided the forum for me. thumbup.gif

They wanted $18 for that one. It's 5-1/4" capped (a Standard) and very dark brown/burgundy like your description. After re-reading that link to the "Streamliner" dialogue, I am not so sure. I examined the "washer" clip part and spied some imprint writing. Unfortunately, I did not have my loupe with me so I couldn't read the words. It's just like the imprint that Eversharp put on their legit Skylines where the word "Skyline" is stamped. I thought that was on it so I didn't bother to get a loupe from the checkout.

I surmise that Syd has a catalog or supportive data to identify a "Streamliner" and the catalog number that was assigned to it. unsure.gif Perhaps these all have "Skyline" imprinted clip rings but were referred to as "Skyline Streamliner" models. Any comments? hmm1.gif

I dunno. Chime in, all.

I've seen Streamliners with a blank clip washer and others with "Eversharp Skyline Pat Made in USA". Both are legit Streamliners since they do not have the double check mark logo on the clip itself.

Also Fox, lots of gold nibs of US manufactor don't have any gold designation. Vintage gold nibs are mostly all 14k. You do see the designation on Canadian & Europeans pens as I believe its required by law.
