Hi all

I got a Delta desk set for Christmas, but am having trouble getting ink in to the lever filler. It seems to only draw up the smallest amount and won't take any more.

As I haven't used deltas that often, am I doing something wrong:

1 insert nib up past neck in ink well
2 pull lever to expel any air in sac (I see bubbles)
3 push lever back down to draw ink up
4 repeat step 2 & 3 couple more times

This process has always worked for all my other lever fill pens. crybaby.gif

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Bren,

The only thing I can suggest is that you hold it for 30 to 60 seconds immersed in the ink, as you described, after letting go of the lever - that's after step 3. Deltas don't work any differently than other lever fillers, just that they have narrower ink channels than some vintage pens.

If that doesn't help, the sac probably has a micro-piercing and needs to be replaced.

Alternatively, the sac in the pen is not the original sac, and has been replaced with a sac that is too small, or something along those lines.

HTH, warm regards, Wim

If Wim's tips don't cure your problem, be informed that quite a few modern sac-fillers are not operating to the fullest extent of the what they could suck in in terms of ink. In other words, most of the vintage sac fillers work better. There is a device that Visconti sells, called the "Traveling Ink Pot." With such a think you'll be able to fill all pens up to the utmost of their capacity. I have one and it virtually eliminates all excess air in a pen's feed and filling system. Very nice gadget!

I am sorry to hear about the problem.

All of my Deltas work like a charm, but I do not have a lever fill Delta. Wim might be on taget, and I would contact Delta for a sac replacement, or at least for help. I feel that a Delta pen is a quality writing instrument that should function perfectly, or at least all but perfectly.

omasfan might also be right. I have a Sheaffer LE lever fill in the jungle pattern. It is the all time best Sheaffer Balance-type pen that I have. It is the right size and shape, the weight is great, the balance is perfect, and the stub nib writes like a champ. But the lever filler holds about three drops of ink! Thus far, I am just living with the issue. But I think I will contact a pen meister to see if the problem can be corrected.

Good luck!

Thanks all. Will give it a try.

I have been planning to get one of the Visconti travelling ink wells for some time now. So, here's my excuse also tongue.gif

I think I understand your fastration.I bought the new Delta ISrael 60 LE with a lever fill and was surprised to see it has a very small ink capacity,it will take only few dropps. For me its not a big deal because I dont use it but if I did I dont think I would get a lot of ink capacity from this other then that a wonderful pen.
