While I have no problems with all sorts of really flexible vintage nibs (mainly on vintage Pelikans and Montblancs) the more springy/flexy modern nibs just cannot be adjusted to my writing.
AND the Sailor KOP is one of them :-( Sailor was very friendly and exerted to adjust the nib and feed but it didn't work.
While the ink flow is very good most of the times and the nib writes nicely too I still lift up the first 1/3 of the nib from the feed to far so the ink flow stops by flexing (=pressing down to hard) the nib on some figures and letters (e.g. signature, paraph at work,....).
I don't think increasing the ink flow of the feed only will help!
...desperately wishing to use this wonderful pen which I have over a year now I came up with some ideas I need your input on:
- Is there a way to stiffen/harden a flexy/springy nib afterwards by heating/cooling? This might help to prevent lifting the nib from the feed by flexing the nib to far.
- Also I thought having the nib bent down to a "Concorde" style nib (like Sailors "Concorde" or Richard Binder's "Condor") will prevent extensive flexing as well as the pressure forces will be taken up the bent part of the nib rather than by flexing the tines????
- ...most interesting.... I really like to get an ink collector or overfeed intalled on top of the nib like on Sailors' smaller 1911 Emperor's nibs. This also should prevent the nib a little bit from flexing but most imortant it should supply some ink to the nib even if lifted off from the feed! Unfortunately Sailor does not offer those collectors for the large KOP nibs but only for the smaller 1911 nibs (and they wouldn't fit). Are there any overfeeds available (maybe even in gold?) or are there any nib meisters / goldsmiths out there who might be able to produce such an overfeed for my pen?
Than again it would be interesting to know how to install it. Do you think you could just push it into the section together with nib and feed? I've never handled such a Sailor pen even it has been on my wish list for a long time.
So now please don't tell me I'm crazy and I either should change my style of writing or sell the pen
I'm looking forward to your comments.
Cheers
Michael
