I got this baby for a good price earlier this week. Had to do some soaking and cleaning, but the sac was in great shape, so now she's writing like a champ!

I noted that the slit in the nib looks in sort of bad shape...like it has been melted, or otherwise really roughed up somehow. It writes and flows just fine, but that channel looks pretty ugly under a loupe. Oh well. Effects of corrosive ink exposure?

Nice pen and very nice pics. ENJOY!

inky,

You'll sometimes see the steel slit of an esterbrook with a bit of corrosion like you show. I have never found it to be a problem.

Hi,

Is it an SJ? If it is, I have one of those (Jennifer) with a 9550 nib.

Not necessarily corrosion. We should see it under the loupe.
Another possibility is when some people try to increase the flow of the pen inserting an x-cto knife between the tines. Sometimes they create this kind of damage.

I'm not sure if I can snap photos through the loupe. Good project! I'll try it out and report my findings, probably Monday.

Real nice photos, inkyfingers! I love how the green shade of the pen complements the warm brown colour of the background smile.gif
