Full Version: Keeping a PC journal
The Fountain Pen Network > Creative Expressions > The Write Stuff

Something which I have done for a few years now and which has saved my bacon on not a few occasions, is the keeping of a journal where I write all the information pertinent to the PC, including all the changes to my PC hardware, software etc, documenting the whole process of trying to fix things and so on. Its also being recommended by Jack Schofield in this article yesterday's Guardian (UK national newspaper).

You won't believe the number of times I have had to refer back to it to remember how I fixed a problem the last time round, or seek out an infrequently used password. Its also something that doesn't tend to stop working even when your PC has fallen on its face.

I was using DayNotez Desktop with my Clie but now have switched to an iMac & Treo. Unfortunately Natara DayNotez doesn't support Mac, so I lost my desktop version...

But journals, digital or handwritten, have saved me more than once, in dealing with Billing or Business Offices!
I am not a number
I had all that information very helpfully saved on my PC.

I suppose that I didn't really think it through as well as I could have...

I used my Newton for that.

Replacing it with my Fujitsu Stylistic has me writing this sort of stuff in a Circa notebook.

I'm all about journaling, but here I have to admit that I keep this material as a "note" file in my iPhone...
