I have looked at the specs for these pens on the Ujuku site and the dimensions and weight seem to be the same. The only difference seems to be the nib, a 14k No 10 in the 742 or a 14k No 15 in the 743. The price is $173 or $260 respectively.

So what is the difference that makes them so far apart in price? Not just the nib surely?

Yes, just between a Pilot nib #10 and #15. With my Custom 845, the #15 brings with it a bit more responsiveness.

The only difference is the nib.

Thank you people. I will have to see if I can find pictures of the nibs side by side to see how big the difference is.

Andy, if you found out about this could you detail it for the rest of us? More responsiveness means is more flexible with the same amount of pressure? I can't afford a pen like this but one can dream...and is good to learn, that's why I'm here in first place. It will be most interesting fif any of you can also compare the Falcon nib to these other two.

A couple of years back I ordered several Pilot Music nibs. I was a little surprized that the cost of the nib was around $160 each. The cost of the entire pen was around. $175 So, most of the cost goes into the gold nib. Since the price of gold is around $850 an ounce, it isn't too hard to understand that the price jump is all due to the larger nib on the 743.

Stay Well, RD

The review has solved my doubts...thank you so much for pointing it to me, Siv. This pen is certainly in my priority wish list... but seems like it will have to wait for a while by now. smile.gif

You might want to inquire with Engeika, a Japanese e-bay seller who can get you a Pilot Custom 743 with FA nib for US$147.00 plus US 13.00 for shipping to North America. No relation to him except as a satisfied customer. A much better communication and pricing than Ujuku. Here is his e-bay page:

I think you mean 742. The 743 is $277...

The Current going price for this pen , the 742 custom with the FA nib, is about 178 plus shipping on ebay. I just ordered one yesterday.
