Happy New Year to all CS enthusiasts, modern and vintage.

Anyone get anything for Christmas? What did you buy to treat yourself? Surprises? Bargains? Wish they'd given you the money?

Pics and impressions always appreciated.

I have treated myself to a CS Wellington in Classic Brown with a customised nib from Richard B, on his recommendation...... only just ordered so will have a little while to wait.
AS there seems to be no review of this model on FPN, I will try to rectify this omission in due course smile.gif

Sounds very nice indeed.

Interesting that you're getting a customised nib. What work will be done to the nib (and why did you want it customised)?

Greg

- No doubt the 3 weeks (or whatever it is) for delivery will drag by!

A Dandy in Azure. I'd wanted an Azure CS pen for a long time (ever since Levenger made me drool over that particular combination, a pox be upon them for discontinuing non-house pens).

Because I'm boring about nibs, M.

I took advice from Richard on this; in view of my rather untidy 'cursive italic' style he thought that a slightly modified nib, just a bit wider than the Fine-nibbed Targa I am currently using, should give me a bit more control.... that remains to be seen wink.gif
Also the slightly thicker body, with a bit of weight, to it should help, I think..... thin, light pens with very 'free-running' characteristics (eg ball-points) seem to bring out the worst in my writing, and, in my 'non-FP-using period' I found I did best with fat pens with fine fibre-tips, presumably because they have a bit of 'resistance'.
Well that's the theory!

I was surprised to see that the Wellington is so much heavier than the Churchill..... presumably it has some sort of metal sleeve in it.
I'd have slightly preferred a piston-fill pen, due to their greater capacity, but one can't have everything!
I was impressed to see that the 'fittings' are solid gold, not plated!

I'm just hoping I don't get clobbered by the Spanish Customs when it gets here ohmy.gif

The Azure is fabulous.

How can nibs be boring?

They're not. I just happen to like vanilla medium nibs.

But this is why we love fountain pens and believe they are far and away superior to biros (are they vanilla, white or plain?) and the like.

I am the opposite to rogerb, who feels best served by a nib that helps to control his flow, in that I prefer a freely floating feel to the nib, an effortless glider. I also prefer a finer line than the medium preferred by yourself and yet I enjoy a flourish with a broad nib. And while I am now hooked on trying to make worthwhile use of flex others will prefer a more solid touch.

How could such variation be satisfied by biros? While I can marvel at the beauty and rarity of certain pens I find the design and performance of nibs even more intriguing.

Lucky, lucky people who got pens at Christmas. No new pens to report here, but I'm seriously considering treating myself at the Northern Pen Show.
Greg
Anything particular in mind, Carrie?
