I have a Parker I like a lot. I don't know what kind it is or how old it is. I don't remember where, when, or how I procured it. It seems to have a very nice italic gold nib.

It's been a good writer for years. But in the past couple of weeks it has been wet and covered with ink when I uncap it. The writing is messy and sloppy. The ink flows all over my fingers and clearly it is in need of work. Can anyone id this pen? Can anyone give me advice?

I am an unschooled ninny and the picture does not do the pen justice. It's got a nice black sheen.

This is a guess, but if it's a sac-filler, perhaps the sac has had it's day and the pen requires a re-sacing?

Looks like a Sonnet. The nib and feed should just pull out of the section. I'd yank them out and wash it all off and put it back together and see if just a loose feed is your problem. Are you using cartridges or converter? Might be time for a new converter if it is years old... try a cartridge and see if the problem goes away. Those are my guesses. Are you using the same ink as you always have?

Thank you so much, both of you. I have only had it for a couple of years, but I don't know how long it was owned. I think it might be a sonnet, but have not researched it. I will try a new converter, or I'll try cartridges. I will see what I can do before I take it to the hospital.

A leaking converter will cause air to enter the ink chamber and allow ink to dribble out the feed and nib. The cure is a new converter. Try a fresh cartridge too, in case the leak is somewhere else. If it works fine with a new cartridge, the converter is bad. They do start to leak sometimes.

Thank you again, everyone. I have not had time to investigate it, but I plan to. It's great to have so many experienced and thoughtful people on this board.
