Happy New Year to all Pentracers (& Lurkers)!

I have a beautiful BHR John Hancock full-size FP which has a partial metal cartridge stuck inside. It just turns when I try to unscrew it (which is the way it usually comes out!) & won't come out. This one is in excellent condition & I'd like to get it out & replace the carridge with a spare I have.

Looks like the feed is held in by a pin of some sort on the flared part of the section, but doesn't go all the way thru like most pinned-in parts. Anybody know how I can get this apart or some way to remove the partial cartridge? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please post here, but also PM or e-mail me (docnib@msn.com) with any answers.

Thanks!

Anybody out there have a clue? I gotta believe some of you have worked on a John Hancock FP before...once this partial cartridge is removed, the pen can then be posted for sale. Make my day! PLEASE?

I'm in the same boat - I have one with a stuck brass cartridge too, and haven't figured out how to get it out either. I took it to DC a number of years ago (may have been my first show) and got pretty much the same answer from the repair guys (Victor, and Roger) who were there. Maybe it's time to have another look at it?

It's a really striking pen with all that black and the RED band.

If you ever have one of these with a stuck cartridge, don't apply force from the back: the cartridge is very thin and will crumple at the slightest prompting. Disassembly is from the front. The feed is pinned in place, to help prevent it being dislodged when pushed from the back when a cartridge is mounted. Once the pin is extracted, you'll have direct access to the threaded joint holding the cartridge in place. I think I took some good photos the last time I complete dismounted one of these -- will have to check.

Thanks Ron & David for the info you've supplied! I've got a Green-banded ful size model which came with a crumpled & broken cartridge, but I have an extra one to install when I get this one out.
You're quite right David, the walls are very thin & weak!

Now David, the question is, how do you get the pin out? I can apply some directed heat to the pinned area & use a flat/smooth edge needle nose to pull it out...not sure what will do the trick. Any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated! We've got massive rain, wind & now snow is mixing in, so pen refurbishing & putting together more sale trays are on the agenda today...
Gotta love winter in the mountains!

Cheers!
