Shutting down the laptop now and I've barely managed to drag 362 words onto paper.

Today's NaNoWriMo goal was 1,666 words. I suppose if I double up tomorrow's word count, I should be back on track. But this writing the story by hand before typing it up? Heck with that. It's going straight into the computer.

The story so far: The protagonist, Gilroy Harvey, has made a cup of cocoa.

362 words of making a cup of cocoa. In the microwave.

Oh dear.

Well, I'll be sleeping with a notebook (a small Moleskine cahier) and an Estie (SJ 9556, Noodler's Red Black) beside the bed, to jot down any ideas that spring to mind in the dead of the night (on account of that's when they usually do put in an appearance).

And on that note, goodnight all.

Hi T.
I`m also doing the Nano thing. I`m writing by hand but I also wrote less than I had planned.
I`m writing a mystery and got as far as discovering the body. Then I had to think about how the murderer would get a plastic bag with perfume over the victim`s head.
I think I figured it out during lunch blink.gif sick.gif

It`s fun isn`t it? :bunny1: :bunny1:

T and Karin,

I take my hat off to both of you. Wouldn't it bee cool if T's cocoa drinker and Karin's murderer or victim could be in some way connected?

Karin, you're writing a mystery novel? My hat's off to you! Mysteries require a plot that works, a problem that gets solved. Mysteries have to ... make sense!!! Good luck!

Hmmm, I might pepper an ongoing reference to "a faint hint of perfume in the air" throughout the story. I mean, why not? It can only up my word count, you know? Lol! Hey Karin, what kind of perfume is it?

You're making me want to get my 'novel' out and work on it again. OF course alot of the city has changed since I started writing!

my favorite 'Neighborhood' cartoon is a writer sitting at a typewriter thinking " how do I get the butter out of the kitchen"

What else, "Poison" tongue.gif

And I'm sure I can have a character sipping on a cup of hot chocolate that's laced with........... sick.gif

That will be my second murder. MWahhaaaaaaaaa

And then there will be one more.

This is a mystery that I have wanted to write for a long long time to vent some of my anger toward a workplace that I had the misfortune to inhabit. angry.gif
Ooooooh, it feels good already.

Now back to the writing (with my black and blue, oops I mean my blue black Etruria laugh.gif

Yep isn't it fun to write through things. Very catharatic. I once 'disposed' of a person through a story that really helped me work through the feelings at the time. rolleyes.gif

Suckage is a good thing as long as it's in quantity.

I mean, if you write a 1000-word story, you might find that, after editing it, there are only 20 words worth saving. (yikes)

But, with a 50,000-word story, you could end up with 1000 words worth saving, if the math holds out. And that's pretty good.

Keep on bashing out the words!

eureka.gif OhOhOh! I've just found a great way to boost wordcount! eureka.gif

I posted this, TC Wordcount Boostage, on the Toasted Cheese website, but here it is, copy/pasted as well.

***

Here we are, not even one week into NaNoWriMo, and already I'm looking for wordcount boosters. Well, I've found one. And how. Right here on Toasted Cheese.

And I'm here to share the wealth.

You can get a good 500-1000 (more, even!) words out of each of the writing prompts in the Calendar!

I've taken a prompt, tailored it to fit my characters and plot, and dashed out a couple of pages that form a scene which, although not chronologically (or even just logically) in place in the novel, is definitely a part of the story (I just haven't found its place yet).

Using today's Scene: Three people at a coffee shop discussing the tip prompt, I've actually developed my main character (as a spineless paranoid sycophant), moved the plot forward, and upped my wordcount.

This is great!

So, my suggestion to one and all (should you run into a wall and find yourself unable to do anything with your story)? Pilage the Toasted Cheese Calendar's writing prompts for wordcount boosting material!
