New to the forum obviously. I have a problem that has been racking my brain since I bought this pen. I am not new to MB pens but this pen, becuase of its circumstances eludes me. I bought this pen on ebay. Ok, I know, I know, scams, but....I brought this pen to a MB dealer and they told me it clearly is a MB, only problem is what model. So here are the details:

Not sure if you can make this out, it says:

On the opposite side of the box it reads in white label:
75th Anniversary
75350 Size=M 02424

The Pen also says "75 Years of Passion and Soul on the cap ring with a diamond chip in the Passi"o"n spot and
saiys in a circle on the Nib "75 Years Meisterstuck"

Next picture is my MB 149 Broad with the 75th Anniversary Watchamacallit underneath:


Note the difference in size, the 149 is wider than the "supposed" 149 special edition.

So here is what I think:
1. To my knowledge the 75th Anniversary 149 was only produced in Rosegold. This pen is NOT rosegold.
2. It is also not the same width as my 149
3. I think it is possible that the compnay made a mistake and sent me a smaller 75th anniversary fountain in the 149 box, BUT wouldn't the 149's label have something written about it being rosegold? Possibly not.

So I deduce that this is either a 114 or a 146/7 75th Anniversary edition. But this is troublesome because, if I wish to resell this pen at some point the buyer and myself included would like to know what the hell it is that I have??

I apologize for the poor pictures, cameras are not my specialty. Please help me and thank you in advance.

Easy peasy, you have there a 146/7 75th special edition in a 149 box! Boxes get swapped all the time when people sell pens. Now as for the rose gold part, I have seen many variations of the 75th editions, albeit 146 and smaller, so I would be surprised if the 149 was "only" made in a rose gold configuration, especially since you can see a yellow gold version HERE.

Now after a little more investigation, according to some web resources it seems the standard current 149 is a little different than the 75th 149 as far as size goes:

75th 149= 148mm 165mm 15mm
Std 149 = 146mm 170mm 18mm

Now since everyone measures a little different I would take that with a grain of salt, but it does raise the question, was the 75th 149 smaller than the standard 149? Where does the pen you have fall in these measurements?

Something else to check..... On my Kafka there is a LE number, in my case 06723/18000, on the box for the Kafka is a white sticker with a barcode, below that barcode is the number WE006723, note the matching numbers. Same holds true with my wife's Garbo, unfortunately it seems I have the wrong box with my Poe as those numbers do not match. Do your numbers match?

Building on from Allan's response, here is a picture of three MB's: a 75th Anniv 149, a normal 149, & a 75th Anniv 147 (traveller).

As you can see, both 149's are pretty identicle, with the 147 being a bit slimmer.

Hope this clears up the mystery.

Man.. I don't even remember what kind of box I had when I purchased my pen... To answer only one part of your question, I have a 149 75 anniversary pen in yellow gold. I believe if you look at the bottom ring of words on the cap it should tell you what model you have.

Ummm, now that this thread has resolved the problems, I was wondering how the physical size of the nib compares on the standard 149 and that of the 75 Anniversary Edt. 149.

I too have a montblanc meisterstuck 75 year anniversary. My pen has a rose gold nib with platinum inlays. Not sure if this helps, but ya.

Your pen is the 75th Anniversary Special Edition 146 (piston filler) / 147 (cartridge traveller). It is in the box of the 75th Anniversary 149 Special Edition box. The 75th Anniversary Special Edition was not a numbered Limited Edition and did not have rose gold appointments. The Limited Editions (rose gold) are numbered out of 1924.

Are the Limited Edition nibs plated in rose gold or are they solid rose gold? I have one of these and I remember reading that they were just rose gold-plated, but I can't imagine why Montblanc would do this. I don't think this kind of plating would hold up for very long.

They are 18k Gold, then plated again. It does seem strange, I could only conjecture there are metallurgical reasons that make rose gold unsuitable for nibs.

Well, to be honest, yes, the rosé gold nibs of the limited Meisterstück 75th anniversary edition 1924 from 1999 actually are rosé gold plated. And also yes, unter certain circumstances the rosé gold plating might wear off It hardly happens but it happened.
