Some years ago, my wife wrote a few poems, and allowed me to use them for writing practice. This exercise in a Blackletter variation, is one of them.

When aged 13, I took German as a second language at school, I was immediately attracted by the beautiful German script in the text books and this was probably when my love of lettering began.

I know that Blackletter is a bit difficult for modern eyes, but I think that it's worth the effort. as it has, in its many varieties, a power and stature all of its own.

You must have done something dreadfully corrupt to the letterforms... because I can actually read it! tongue.gif German letterforms are usually Greek to me, but here I can feel the chill in the wind. (As much as I can here in Honolulu.) And I imagine your wife was even more pleased than than we are.

Again a "wow" and a "thank you."

Thank you Doug & Keng, for your kind comments.

Doug : I'm glad that you picked up on Blackletter being appropriate for the subject, as that was deliberate. Its stark beauty seems to suit our winters!

Beautiful as always! I have to say, I open every thread you create because I know it will be filled with a piece that will inspire me to continue striving toward better penmanship. Please never stop sharing your work with us!

Excellent writing, as always, though I finally found evidence that you're a human ( a good thing ).

I'm not sure I like blackletter longer and more spaced out like this, I favor the compact and solid looking, though as far as modernizing it and making it legible to those who aren't familiar with the hand, you did a perfect job.

I especially like the b's and d's.
