Full Version: Mixing parts from a Pelikan M450 and an M400

Not that I plan to do this anytime soon, but are Pelikan parts easily interchangeable? That is, if I wanted to use the vermeil twist cap (and the main cap, of course) from a Pelikan M450 with an M400's black barrel and nib section, could I switch them myself? Does one remove the twist cap by simply unscrewing it further than one does when filling the pen?

I love the M450's cap, but I wouldn't want its barrel.

Thanks!

The Pelikan M450, whose vermeil cap I've coveted a bit lately:

I'm not game to twist the piston-knob off my M450, so I'll let someone else answer that...

But why wouldn't you want the barrel? It is gorgeous! (John's picture makes the colour look weird though.)

Ditto--I have a couple of Pelikans, but I'd rather just learn the answer from someone who knows.

If or when I get one, I suppose I might start with an M450 and think about it before buying a black M400 for its barrel, but I really don't think I'd like the M450's barrel.

I'd love a Pelikan entirely in the M450 cap's texture and finish (i.e. including the barrel) but, unless I'm missing something, I don't think that's available.

This isn't something I'll get right away, anyway, though. I'm just getting into fountain pens and, a few months ago, I got a black M200 and then, more recently, a black M600 with a custom nib from John Mottishaw, so I think it's time to wait a bit and make sure that I'll still be as enthusiastic in a year or so. For now, I'm carrying and using the M600 daily and I'm quite happy with it.
