For those interested, Levenger's pocket briefcase is on sale in several colors. They also have many other items at large discounts.

Also, Staples has a pocket briefcase that is identical to Levengers' but only costs $9.99. The brand is M by Staples, which is a store brand of upscale journals, folders, and random leather business goods. Check this site to see if they are available at a Staples near you...

Indeed they say "genuine leather" right on them. I think this is a brand new attempt by Staples to pander to the retro-chic crowd. In any case, I've seen and touched both the Levenger and Staples pocket briefcases...they are in fact the same.

The local Tuesday Morning has ones similar to the standard and international for $3-4. Can't say whether they are real leather but they work nice and look nice.

Too late - says the Intl. in toffee is on sale. But doesn't allow you to select that color. I'm gonna guess they're gone.

And the True Writer Notewriter is tempting.

If only my old Intl. weren't still in such beautiful condition.

I bought the cheapo (Tuesday Morning) just in case. I doubt it will hold up nearly as well as Levenger's. Very thin. Haven't seen the Staple's version.

I like to think of it as the thrifty version lticaptd.gif I've had mine for about a month and it is holding up quite well. It is thin but once you stick a half dozen cards into the inner pocket it gives some stiffness which makes it easy to write on.

I found something like this at Target recently, for $5. The brand is Franklin-Covey. Similar to the cranberry Levenger model, but with a zipper on the back. Not a great idea if you leave it under your index cards while you're writing on a table: the zipper handle gives you a slightly wavy writing surface. I might get rid of the zipper altogether. But the whole thing looks good for the price. I don't know yet if it's durable, though.

Toffee may be back in stock, I can choose it. I ended up ordering TW Notewriter, though. If you get catalogs, use the little card that comes with the catalog (e-preferred customer savings). You get an additional 20% off.

Sometimes Levenger removes a color not when the stock gets to zero, but when it gets below a threshhold in the warehouse. If it's a color you want, it's worth calling. Sometimes I've only gotten that color by having it shipped from one of their retail stores.

They also have an outlet store, so if you really want that matching color piece, sometimes that's worth checking out.

Not that I've ever done this sort of obsessive thing, mind you.
