It's a big pen, though fairly light, lighter than your 149. It will write well, as almost all Pelikans do. The nib will be a bit wider and wetter than you might expect and you will get a hint of flex.
It's a fine pen, enjoy.

All what Rick said! It is a fantastic pen. My only complaint with it is that they could have designed it to hold more ink in that gargantuan barrel. It's nice and light for its size, making it an oversize pen that you can actually use. The nib is like a paintbrush, very soft and tactile. Much different from their smaller nibs in my opinion.

It is one of the best pens ever made, it is sober, reliable and elegant. The Noble Savage made a great review of this pen, you should read it. It will be a great companion for your 149. This pen is on my wish list too.

I know the review from The Noble Savage very well
pel1000 review by TNSand
as MB149 fan I am very glad to hear from another MB149 fan (you) that PEL1000 is: "one of the best pens ever made". I adore my 149 and hardly waiting to compare this two giants.

OK Pilgrim, since you asked, let me be the voice of discontent. I have used it and I found it embarassingly large--rather showy. Kind of like wearing a short-sleeve shirt with an arrow painted on your arm pointing to your Rolex watch. To my mind it is not a comfortable pen to handle.
That said, I know you will prove me wrong and will use it daily in good health.

@OK Romeo Dog: of course I asked - thanks for the second opinion.
all my "showy" pens (montblanc e.g. or maybe even parker 100 in ivory and gold) I use when I am alone (at home or at work)
for occasions when my pens can be noticeable I prefer VP, lamy2000 or some nice small pens ( preras, pelikans200, rotring lissabon...).

First let me say that I absolutely love Pelikan pens! I have a 150, 200, 400's, 600 and an 800. The larger I got the better I like them. However I don't plan on buying a 1000. It is just too big for me! It stands up way too tall in a shirt pocket, even deep pockets. It would have to be a desk pen if I had one. I feel like I am using one of those giant pencils the elementary school kids had when I write with one. That said I feel the same way about the MB149. So if you are comfortable writing with and carrying the 149, you should love the 1000.

I just love big pens. I do not know, a kind of compensation, maybe?

The M1000 has a beautiful wet feed and flexible (modern terms) nib.
If you're used to a medium nib, this will write like a broad.
All my Pelikans are fines...my M1000 is an extra-fine.
I actually like watching this nib spring when I print with it
