"Do It Yourself!" by James D. Sutton, EdD is an instructional pamphlet for "Replacing vintage fountain pen nibs and ink sacs using common tools." I'm not affiliated in any way, I just got a copy from eBay (very inexpensive!) and wanted to know if anyone else had this book and what they thought of it.
(The seller doesn't have any listed on eBay right now, so if anyone wants to look into it, it says to e-mail friendly(at)docspeak(dot)com. ISBN 978-1-878878-72-4 )

R U familiar with "DA BOOK"? That is the classic how to pen book. Although it was written several years ago and has some repair tricks in it that are frowned upon by most modern repair folks, it still is the go to guide to pens and their repair.

Yes, we own Da Book, but I got this, too becauseI know Da Book has some flaws, plus I'm always hungry for more...
With the shortcomings of Da Book (this one, too; it's talking about nail polish and baby powder...), I really wish one of the real experts would put their pen to the problem. Imagine a "Da Book" by, say, Richard Binder or John Mottishaw. Heck, if they each wrote one, I'd shell out good money for each and be grateful to pay it! ^__^

I think good sources of information should be shared. I love to write with fountain pens,
but I also repair my vintage pens and even make pens from "kits". I think "da book" is a great source
but not the only source.
I would like to share what I know with people who just stumbled on a fountain pen and want to
learn to put a new sack in, or make it write or just polish it to make it shiny. That's why I'd like to
put in my 2 cents and post here on the Repair Q&A board.
People who want to rebuild their vacumatic or sheaffer plunger filler can move to the next level and
seek more detailed information from other people.
And of course, there is the knowledge of when to put the pen aside and send it off to one of the
great gurus of pen repairdom.
Fox in the Stars, I would like a review of the book and I'll probably be adding it to my library in the near future.
Thank you for your post.
Mary
