It's from Harbor Freight...

Harbor Freight USC

I recommend against this particular model. The controls are in the lid, and the wires that connect them pass through the hinge. This is a weak point, and the wires fatigue and break, disabling the cleaner at an early age.

I got one of those and it's been a great boon to my newbie tinkering---removes gunk nothing else will. I definitely see Richard's point, tho.

Richard...thanks for the advice. Is there a model you are willing to recommend?

Which do you prefer?

For an inexpensive cleaner, I recommend this one, which you can get at Micro-Mark.

Does it cost more than the Harbor Freight model? Yes, you can buy three of the cheapies for the price of this one. Is it worth it? Yes, it does a better job, and it won't die on you when you least expect it.

I have a different model from Harbor Freight (also a Chicago) and so far I've been pretty happy with it. It's not super high capacity, but I don't need a larger one for what I use it for.

Ultrasonic cleaner option

It's about $60, so somewhat more than the original one you list. but shouldn't have the wire fatigue problem.

I have Brookstone's prior version of this and it seems good. Also, Brookstone will exchange it if it ever fails.

I picked one up at Bed Bath & Beyond last spring for about $50 that was made by Haier that's served me very well.

Check this out. $14.95 and no controls on the lid.

The more powerful one looks good too. Doubt it's 'industrial' quality, but looks like more power and bigger capacity than the smaller one.

Any experience with it?
