Always a fan of Conklin Pens, I decided to try a fountain pen of theirs. I like larger pens, so the Nozac was a natural choice. This was the Harvest Moon colour, 14K nib in medium. A beautiful, solid-looking pen.
1. First, the clip fell off.
2. Then it stopped writing; a new feed system was installed.
3. Then, big globs of ink would wind up on the paper.
4. Then, I took this DRECK back for a refund.
5. NEVER will buy another Conklin FP. Oy vay! sick.gif

Don't be too hard on 'em. Handmade items are from a different world than the Deming / Statistical QC'd industrial articles we find in the big stores. Just send it back and get a different pen.

Conklin's QC has been very spotty, unfortunately. I've had plating problems, staining problems, and mediocre customer service. In the end, I don't buy anymore Conklin's either....the only one that's any good is/was my Nozac LE, which made by Visconti or Stipula way back when.

It's such a shame, as the Nozac's size is just about perfect.

I had nothing but good service on my Conklin Nozac and Glider (I think).
The Glider had flaking on the cap band and they replaced it.
The Nozac, I think had flow issues or something to do with the section.
Both fixed quickly and correctly.

If these were piston or lever fill pens they would be awesome.
The c/c converters stink.

I do like their customer service, when I emailed them about 3 problems I had with my black glider (the flow, nib came loose and clip fell off), they sent me a new one without even asking for me to return the old one. Well the section came off on this one also! Apparently it wasn't attached properly. I also had the flow adjusted by Fred Krinke and it writes nicely. So while I am happy with the customer service I'm hesitant about the pens. And looking at another comment in this thread (thus far), even the the individual happy with Conklin had to send both purchases back for repair. This is not a very good percentage. Last year I bought my nephew a Nozac from Fred, but before we wrapped it up I had him widen the feed and check the glue or shellac on the section. Would I buy another Conklin? Well they were so darn nice to me, heck I now have two working gliders for the price of one and the small fee I paid to have the original pen set right. I think they have nice designs for the money so ...yes I would, with reservations...

I had to send both of mine back for flow issues (after I tried every DIY remedy known). The Nozac med. pt. is fine now. The fine pt. still has flow issues, maybe it's the Xmas red ink, too thick? Time to clean it out and see. Probably not buy another for all the trouble.

So, what went wrong with the pen?

I have about 6 newer Conklin's now. Over the years I have experienced both good and bad service. I like their styles and designs, specifically the Ohio and Nozac. They do seem willing to satisfy the customer but as I write this comment I am awaiting the return of a Mark Twain Signature mailed USPS Priority on 11/21, just over 4 weeks now.
I had a brief discussion with Robert at Conklin regarding the manufacture of his pens. He indicated the more expensive (Twain Crescent and others) are made in Italy and the others are manufactured in various countries.
If anyone has any experience with a MT Crescent please share.
