So on my new quest of collecting the series of Transitional J's with 3 ribbed caps, I finally receiving my first gray one. (Would you believe I was halfway there and sold them all...stupid stupid) Either way, the gray (grey) one shows up and the trim and clip are a bit loose on it. I'm wondering if I can shellac those in place so they don't rotate or wiggle as much.

Another weird thing too though is it came with a sac that seemed to be good, yet will suck up no ink whatsoever.

Anyone like to guess how many Transitional J series pens with 3 ribbed caps our friend PenguinMaster needs to locate? Keep in mind there are differing imprints...



If the pocket clip is loose, just tighten the jewel. Three-ribbed jewels are typically threaded. The jewel holds the pocket clip in place. This makes cleaning and polishing the cap easier.

You can use a drop of clear finger nail polish to hold the trim ring in place. Be careful because the acetone will soften the cap material.



Your nib unit is likely plugged. Try soaking and removing it. Another possibility is a pin hole in the sac.

Thanks for the info. I knew there was some solution for the trim ring. The jewel on the top is pretty tight, but the clip still wobbles, I'll work on that though. As for sac problem, so far i've removed the old sac as i ordered new ones anyway. I also soaked the nib unit which was pretty plugged up with green ink, so I'm guessing that was the problem.

As for colors, I'm looking for the six colors, in the J full size right now. No preference to the imprint.
