Are there any finishing Artisans using this board? i.e. silversmiths, goldsmiths, artists handpainting on pens, basically any skilled craftsman that can enhance the body of the pen etc I see so many stunning pens with very intricate and ornate finishes also i'm a fan of the Russian miniature art seen on the Krone pens, but these people dont seem to get much credit or recognition for what they do.

But rarely get the time rolleyes.gif

I'm very lucky to have a friendly jewelers' supplier who is prepared to sell me gold, silver and gemstones in the ridiculously small quantities I use.

This post hit a nerve biggrin.gif

There is this thing around that anyone who makes fancy ornamented stuff is an amazing artist. Drives me mad biggrin.gif
If you've ever made a model airplane/boat/train etc as a kid, you most likely have many of the necessary skills.
The principal ingredient in reality, is simply the will to 'have a go' and be prepared for a few mess ups until practice works it's magic smile.gif
No harm to have some idea of form & style too, but that's not all that unusual.

The biggest danger IMHO is avoiding bling.

I have a friend that does some hand painting on powder coated tubes that are then cast in acrylic, They make for a nice looking pen when done, but I am not an artist by and means!

I would be interested to see his work if you have a link!

She has some tubes for me now and might have some done soon. She has a premie-newborn (sadly just one of twins) so I really have to wait on her and when she can make some for me. I will show them when I get them done.

I'm going to make you madder then.
I disagree. It's not the artisan skill that makes someone the artist, though that helps and practice there makes perfect. The artistic bit is having the imagination to see something beautiful that's never existed before, and having the imagination to create it out of what you have in your hand at that time.
That's why you're an artist Ruaidhri.

You mad enough now?

Richard.
