Last night I sat down to write a snail with the two pens that were in my pocket. Then, for the next snail I wanted something else, so I went to the pen cup and starting picking out things. After I had more pens in my hand than were in the pen cup, I decided I'd just take them all. Here's the result. (Side note: the second snail never got written)

Hi,

That computer is just like mine!! Well, never mind...

Could you list all of the pens left to right? Is the fourth pen from the left a Parker 45 Flighter GT?

Dillon

Hey,
I would like to see a closeup of the envelope. Looks like there is an interesting embellishment.

Regards,
Jeen

PS
Do you name your pens?
Slush99
nice laptop! What kind of pens are those?

Hey look! We can start a Mac-user's forum within FPN! biggrin.gif

Notice the photo on the computer screen...isn't technology fun?

The computer's from work and it's a dreamboat. My wife keeps asking me if I'll leave it at home so she can use it while I'm at work with my desktop computer. smile.gif

The pens, nibs and inks, from left to right:

1. Namiki VP blue carbonesque, 18K M, PR Burgundy Mist
2. Wearever Meteor, 14K F, WM BB
3. Waterman Phileas, F, Moldy Grape!
4. Parker 45 flighter Chrome Trim, M, WM Havana Brown
5. Platinum (short-long?), 14k F/XF, Platinum Black
6. Parker 51, 14K M, WM BB
7. Parker Vector, giant Stub, Noodler's Purple
8. Pelikan GO, M, Lamy Green
9. Kaweco Sport ED, M, Noodler's Devil Red/Noodler's Black mix

The pens don't have names and the back of the envelope just has some doodling and my return address on it.

TMann: if I take a picture of my computer showing the picture of your computer etc. can we go back in time? If we can, should we pick up a bunch of Mandarin Duofolds at $7.00 a pop?

That reminds me of a quote from the comedian Stephen Wright:

"I put instant coffee in a microwave oven and almost went back in time."

Here are some other quotes of his:

"If you are in a spaceship that is traveling at the speed of light, and you turn on the headlights, does anything happen?"
"What's another word for Thesaurus?"
"I installed a skylight in my apartment... The people who live above me are furious!"
"I like to reminisce with people I don't know."
"If a word in the dictionary were misspelled, how would we know?"

Hi,

Thought I'd join in the fun.

Here's my lovely iMac 20" and my fledgling pen collection.

TMann - I love your 'open' pen cup - where did you get it?

Thanks
Denis Richard
Do I see a trend of disturbing neatness on Apple-lover desks blink.gif

Ahem... I'll come clean and admit to tidying mine before the photo biggrin.gif

TMann and David: What pens in your pics?

David, looks like a Parker 51 and a Balance? Blue Phileas? ??

TMann, I see Waterman, Sheaffer in the standup case, maybe a Sonnet in the cup?

Denis: Neatness? That's just the kitchen table. I couldn't fit a computer on my desk if you paid me to. smile.gif
djahughes
Hi,

Yes it's a Parker 51. It's my second; I bought one last year but must have bought a dud. I got this a week or so ago and really like it. It's quite a late one I think in fantastic condition and writes beautifully.

The other pen is my 'main pen' and is a Visconti Van Gogh. I got this yesterday and I love it!

I say main pen because I'm not a collector as such more a user. However the presence of a a second pen on my desk points towards a change in that state :-)

Thanks

Hi David, so you got the Van Gogh wink.gif

Delighted to hear you're loving it! How do you find the nib?

Have you signed up for the Snail list here at FPN? It's pinned under the write stuff.

RichardS

Hi Richard,

I've been meaning to drop you an email to thank you for your help but time has not been my friend.

I think the nib is great but I am getting used to it. The reason for this is that I went for the fine. In the past I have always had medium nibs but have fine myself leaning to wards finer nibs of late and so thought that it was time to try one. Strangely both the pens I have at the moment are fine as the Parker 51 is also.

The Visconti nib is great though; very smooth and with a nice spring which is just what I was looking for. I found that my Pelikan 805 medium nib felt rather dull after the MB 146 I had before it - the Visconti feels as if I am writing with a delicate instrument again. The nib is nice and wet which I think helps with it's fineness. What I am finding with fine nibs is that they seem to highlight shortcomings in my handwriting, of which there are many, whereas the extra width of a medium seemed to hide them.

The Van Gogh is a truely lovely pen. I went for the Blue (not the one with the orange in) which is beautiful the pen is blue overall with greeny and white areas that remind me of waves the way they swirl in with teh blue. There are even a couple of translucent areas. Having been to the Van Gogh museum and become a bit of a Van Gogh fan the pen seems a fitting tribute. The resin does have the feel of oil paints on a canvas or palette.

I was going to write a review but no I guess I don't need to! wink.gif

@djahughes - Ooh...nice screen. I have started putting my Powerbook up on a stand whenever I'm doing a lot of work. It causes less eye and neck strain than having the laptop sitting directly on my desk. The open pen cup and the glassed-in pen holder are from a store called "Bombay House." They have them over here on the West coast of the U.S. The pen cup and pen holder were birthday gifts from my wife and kids.

Speaking of desktop items, I have two questions for you:

1. Is that one of the new ROKR phones? Or is that a Nokia?
2. What exactly is that "little blue man" that we see on the left side of the photo?

@nmb - I've attached another photo of the pens that I currently have on my desk. I don't always have my "best" pens out, but I always fill up the pen holder with something. I guess if I planned it better, I would have had all of the nice ones neatly arranged there...

The pens in the photo are, (from left to right):

1. Vintage Parker Big Red rollerball - This pen was originally a drug company pen and has the name "Bristamycin (Erythromycin stearate)" on the side. Erythromycin is an antibiotic that has been around for a very long time, so the pen was probably made 30 or 40 years ago.
2. Parker Frontier rollerball - I have a lot of rollerball pens since I have to use them at work.
3. Faber-Castell fountain pen - a vintage piston filler with a nice nib.
4. Parker Duofold ballpoint - a nice BP in a pretty blue color.
5. Parker Sonnet rollerball - I have this same blue color Sonnet in both a rollerball and an FP. My FP is currently enroute to Dillon's place to be turned into a stub nib. I'll post some writing samples when I get it back.
6. Waterman Phileas FP - I sent the pen in for a nib swap and now it has a fine nib. It's a great writing pen, especially for the price.
7. Generic brown rollerball pen - I've had this pen for years, and it's still a favorite.
8. Duke Mako - Great asian pen. See my review here.
9. Filcao Columbia "Gem of the Ocean" - I love this pen!
10. Danitrio FP - smooth, solid pen from Danitrio. This pen was featured in Stylophiles magazine here. This is the smaller one, but in black.

In the cup:

1. Sheaffer Prelude - This one has a stub nib from Pendemonium.com.
2. Generic rollerball pen - This is a Waterman-lookalike.
3. Danitrio FP - Another smooth fountain pen from Danitrio. This pen is the larger one featured in the Stylophiles article.
4. That tall item is a letter opener, not a pen.

I'm not sure why, but I always like seeing pics of other people's desks/work areas. It's as if you're getting a little glimpse into their personalities or something...hmm...I guess I need to look more carefully at my desk before I start posting photos of it. wink.gif

Hi,
The iMac screen is awesome! I love just having the iMac with a wireless keyboard and mouse... very cool.

I've just quickly Googled Bombay House and only found Indian restaurants so far... what city is it in? Mind you shipping to the UK maybe pricey...

The phone is a Nokia 6680 and is probably the best phone I've owned. I thoroughly under whelmed by the ROKR but look forward to Apple's first in-house phone - watch this space!

The blue guy is a clockwork dancing robot. My daughter gave me two but sadly the orange went to the big toy box in the sky a little while ago when his spring went sad.gif

Nice collection of pens yo have there. I've just sent an email about the Danitros for sale in the Marketplace so was interested to see yours.

I love photos of other peoples desks too! Wonder why...

Thanks
TMann
Oops...sorry! That should be Bombay Company, not the Bombay House. Bombay House is actually a restaurant that I used to go to in Salt Lake City, Utah. Duh...

I agreee with you about the ROKR. I think that Apple had a bit of a marketing dilemma on their hands with the ROKR. They were just about to introduce their iPod Nano, and didn't really want to take sales away by putting out a full-on "iPod Phone." The ROKR, thus, has a 100 song limit, and is otherwise somewhat underwhelming.

I am currently using a Nokia 6620 here in the U.S. I have it setup so that I can check e-mail with the phone, or tether it to my Powerbook and can check e-mail when out and about. It's great for keeping up on the FPN and PenTrace forums. biggrin.gif

TMann

I haven't signed up yet here, because my time is almost full with people from PT, but I'll sign myself up and send something special to the first person who PMs me for my address. Don't get excited, I don't have extra pens to give away. I'm just not that kind of guy smile.gif

I love Steven Wright's sense of humour...

Some more Wrightisms:

"All those who believe in psychokinesis raise my hand."

"I used to work in a fire hydrant factory.
You couldn't park anywhere near the place."

"I went to the hardware store and bought some used paint. It was in the shape
of a house. I also bought some batteries, but they weren't included."

"I got food poisoning today. I don't know when I'll use it. "

"How do you tell when you're out of invisible ink?"

Thanks everyone for all the desk shots. I use a non-laptop and have a chunky 16" monitor blush.gif

Thanks. Found it on their site but they do not ship to the UK!!! I hate that... It's the World Wide web!!!!

The 6680 is 3G so browsing and email is nice and fast where there is a 3G signal. Opera on the 6680 is as close to desktop browsing as you can get on a mobile device.

Moppie, You should take a photo of your computer where the screen shot is an FPN page showing your computer, so it willl be like those "infinity" comic book covers. You know, they're the ones where the cover of a comic book shows a person holding the same comic book... and that comic book is the same one, etc. blink.gif blink.gif

That was the exact effect I was trying to do wink.gif Just waiting for someone else to take a picture of my computer on FPN to take it to the next level

I would take up the challenge, but, alas, I have no digital camera.....rather spend my money on Pens...... biggrin.gif
