Did I read that they're made by Bock?

I've read that they're quite good in general, though the XFs have been known to be problematic at times?

I just ordered an M800 w/ a F nib, looking forward to it. Picked up a bottle of Pelikan blue to go with it. ;-)

Unfortunately any manufacturers nibs seem to have occasional problems even Pelikans. I have been very fortunate with most of mine. Fine nibs seem to be great, that is what I have on my 800. I did order a XF for an 800 (my old red stripe) and like everyone said it was scratchy and unpleasant, and took a lot of work to get to my liking.

Yes, according to Richard Binder's website, he considers Pelikan EF nibs as specialty nibs that need modification before he sells them. I do have an EF Pelikan nib for my M150 and it does not scratch that much. I may have gotten a good one. However, it is not as super fine as I expected it to be. It's more like a fine
similar to my Esterbrook fine nib.

I've got a pair of mediums (one for an M400 and another for an M150). Both are very smooth.

I can second this.
I have several medium and broad nibs, some oblique, some not.
They are all smooth nibs.

The only fine nib I have is more like a medium so I would not see it as fine at all.
