Hi good folks

just received my xmas present... a lovely mint (it seems) BCHR Kaweco Sport safety ED... the nib is a beautifully shaped 14K medium but going on fine...

what I now need to know are several things...
  1. being my first safety pen, of any make, how you you use them without getting ink all over oneself... like when the nib is retracted... and the pen is held upright... and the cap then put on... what stops the end of the cap filling with ink and when the cap is removed... with the pen held upright as said in the instructions I have come across for Waterman safeties... such that residual ink in the end of the cap does not run down the inside of the cap or through the breather holes... ?????
eg... does one ALWAYS have to carry a wipe to clean up around the end of the pen and nib whenever one removes the cap... ???
  2. how does one give them a simple general maintenance service... ???
  3. most importantly... how does one change the cork seal if needed...???
it appears as though it may have a very slight leak throught the rear cork seal to the knob that retracts the nib... altho being what it seems as unused for the past 75-80 years the cork MAY just need to swell up with moisture to regain full sealing ability (so I say hopefully!!!!)
cheers
Trevor

[EDIT: just discovered that the place I thought it was leaking from seems fine... it is in fact leaking from top of the knurled section of the knob (when the pen is held upright) not at the point where the nib retracting knob meets the knurled bit... and on further investigation found that the bit where it is leaking only needs some silicon grease as there is no seal there only a threaded bit like in a standard ED... so hopefully the main seal is OK afterall!!]
