I own several Omas fountains pens, all of which I like very much.
However, unlike others on this board, I do not find them silky smooth, nor do the glide over the paper. The are all somewhat toothy. Or to put it another way. They all have road feel.
I do have other brands that glide over paper - such as a Montegrappa and a Krone.

My 360 75th Ann. is both toothy and skips.
Quite a disappointment after my expectations.....

My 360 (general population variety) just surfs on a little wave of ink.

The broad Omas nibs are smooth (fire hoses). It's no big deal to make a broad nib that is smooth .
Among the many mediums I have tried the only smooth ones were old 360s and new Paragons. The older Paragons and Arte Italiana pens were indeed a bit toothy. Maybe not as toothy as Auroras, but nowhere as smooth as some MBs (from the 90s and early 00s).
The M nib on my new Arco Paragon is smooth beyond MB and flexible, with line width variation! More so than the Danitrio nibs. I don't know if I am lucky or if it is common on newer Paragons. Boy are these pens a step up from the previous models! I used to loathe the LVMH redesigns, but that was before I actually purchased one. These are some of the least photogenic pens out there as the difference between pictures and the pen in use is quite astonishing.
Anyhow, I do agree that overall the reputation of Omas nib smoothness is overdone.

I can only add a single data point, but I have a new Arco Milord in bronze with an EF nib that is extremely smooth. I also have an Aurora Optima that it a bit toothy. I like both, depending on my mood.

I've had to modify every OMAS I've owned to make them less smooth, as they tend to skate and skip on Clairefontaine due to common baby-bottom issues. Moreover, that's true of the B, M, and F I've used. Best,

I had to have John Mottishaw tweak the nib of the fine Milord I purchased from him because I was experiencing that "skate/skip" issue. The nib was always amazingly smooth, it just need a flow adjustment. After trying Aurora, Visconti and Omas, I will say that the Italian pens seem to require more of those tweaks. Unfortunately I'm not rich enough to have any kind of valid sample.

I own a 360 mezzo, and is the smoothest pen I own. Previously it was the Visconti Pericles, but this Omas "M" is even smoother and no skiping. Actually I can not imagine anything smoother!

Modern Omas pens don\'t seem all that smooth, I agree. I didn\'t find the new Paragon very smooth - not at all, infact. I do have an 360 celluloid in M nib from the 1990s and it\'s actually very smooth, but I guess they used different nibs then.

I currently have 6 Omas pens and only one was a bot toothy out of the box.The rest were perfect! I know that sounds strange but some pens just write well straight from the factory.I had one Milord made into an italic and that was the toothy pen.Now all of them write very well.
Every pen manufacturer will have some good and bad apples.
Guess mine were good.
Same goes with Stipula:perfect out of the box.My Visconti on the other hand...

Why is my Omas so finiky and will work well ONLY with Aurora ink
What is the reason my Omas Paragon will work well only with Aurora ink ?...
The pen used to skip and it drove me nuts.
I was ready to send the pen to get my pen repair guy fix it when the person that sold me the pen told me Aurora ink will solve the problem.
Maybe the OP needs to try Aurora too? Aurora can fix a lot of pen problems. The skipping at least - maybe not the tooth.

Yes I stand behind what I say and my Paragon is perfect with Aurora ink and (Potty Mouth) with the other I tried.Since I use only Aurora with my Paragon then I have the best writer ever.
The reason I will not recomend to use Aurora ink on this pen is because it is also toothy. When the toothy pen will get fix the pen tech should also address the skipping problem so the need for Aurora ink will not be there.
