Anyone else notice the Rhodia pad in Robert Neville's Ford Excursion that was nicely set in the lower right hand side of his dash?

Thought that was an interesting product placement!

(Side note, good movie, but has very little relation to the book)

Really, no relation to the book. The Omega Man was also based upon this book, and took liberties also. It puzzles me - the book is certainly not a big name money magnet - so why use the name and discard the book? Puzzling.

I also find the product placement puzzling - Are people who watch the movies somehow in Rhodia's market sphere? Hmmm.

Reading (really hearing) the book makes me an unyielding critic. There are so many obvious liberties, just in the preview, that would make me wait for the dvd to rent.

Please feel free to bring this topic back from tangent.

I read the short story, written back in 1951 as I recall, the year before I was born. I haven't seen the movie, but the story was awfully weird, and not really his best in my opinion. In the story, the main character drove Willys station-wagons, and I bet Rhodia was never in the picture when Willys roamed the streets.

Perhaps someone connected with the movie writes with a fountain pen, and is even a member of this forum!

I think Rhodia has a "Rhodia Highway" theme for some of their marketing. Maybe that's way they want their product shown in a vehicle.
