Just curious if any of you find yourself picking the ink color for a pen based on the pen's color. I've gotten some new pens resently in green and burgundy/brown and I'm finding I'm putting green ink in the green, brown in the brown, etc. Maybe I've been conditioned by the Pilot G2's, et al, of the none FP pen world. I don't think that I'll always do this, but just noticed that I had.

At my old age, how else am I going to remember what ink is in which pen? ; )

HA I've been found out!! I have all kinds of excuses for doing this... Well if it stains the ink view window it won't stand out, or it just wouldn't look right for green ink to come out of a red pen, etc... But like DrPJM1 it really is the only way I can remember what ink is in each pen. I even stick with certain blues with certain pens since I keep at least 3 blues going at a time!

I match inks and pen colors sometimes. For example, I have Caran d' Asche Sunset in a red Delta Passion, and Caran d' Asche Saffron in a Delta Dolcevita. Other than these, at the moment I don't have any rhyme or reason to the inks that are in my other pens.

No, but I find I do have a tendency to want to buy pens to match my chosen ink colors. For instance, right now I'm lusting after a Pelikan Niagara Falls for my blue ink, and a Pelikan Sahara for my brown ink...

Right now, my blue Pelikano has Cross Blue-Black in it, and my black Pelikano has Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black in it. My big Pelikans are black, and I use whichever ink color strikes my fancy when I fill it, though my signature color has for years been Pelikan 4001 Violet.

Oh, and my chrome and gold Tombow Zoom 909fp has an old Pelikan 4001 Rose cartridge in it today...

No, I don't color match.
I've taken to keeping a little notebook with whats in each inked pen and when I filled it. It works for when I have one of those lapses where I forget. I think they call those senior moments.

I usually do not much color, but after having put pelikan brown in a navy gray Parker 51 ( ), I will pay more attention to this particular.

What if in one of those lapses you forget where you last left put your notebook? Would that score double points as a senior moment?

I love complimentary shades. Purple in a green pen, etc.

On more than one occasion, I've mixed a new color to better match the pen! Guilty as charged!

I guess I'm a bit of a contrary. If I think about the color of the pen at all, I will put in an ink that is totally different, just to weird out people who are used to pens matching.

Nah, no points, but I would pour myself a bit of Bushmills, sit for a bit, and hope my memory comes back before I kill the bottle

I always match ink color to pen when possible. It would bother me very much to have, say, orange ink coming out of a blue pen. The only exceptions are black inks and black pens. I'll put black ink in any pen, regardless of the pen's color, and I'll put any color of ink in a black pen. The way I see it, black goes with everything, so nothing clashes with it.

However, I think I will stick with blue, no matter what pen I get in the future. I don't like black ink, and I need to keep my inks practical for everyday use everywhere. Don't think I will be experimenting anytime soon.

I do try to match pen and ink colors since I filled a burgundy PFM I with Lamy green ink. The ink flowed very nicely, but I just couldn't stand the look of the whole picture.

I frequently don't even think about it, but when I do I feel the same way Lisa does; black goes with anything. Yesterday I was looking for a pen to put red ink in for Christmas cards so I picked my red Aurora Ipsilon because it's the smoothest writing red pen that I have.

I stick with the dark blues and black regardless of pen color. Maybe I'm just boring that way............

I thought the same way once, then I started using dark brown ink, dark green....

Most of my inks are either browns or blues, and I never match them. Well, at least not intentionally. I think more in terms of an ink's compatibility with a particular pen or nib. Some pairings are selected because of their intended uses. For instance, my fine nibbed VP and Hero 237 are both loaded with some sort of colour (currently Aurora Blue) that is acceptable for filling out forms and doing paperwork here at the credit union where I work. Pens like my Pelikan M200 with a Richard Binder .6mm stub is filled with Noodler's Brown, which is fine for signing letters or hand written notes that I may need to send.
