Full Version: Right or left foot oblique from Richard Binder?

I've been looking at the site, but I am confused one which oblique to get, considering I am going to get a cursive italic.. Left or right foot oblique? I write with my right hand. The site seems to suggest a left foot oblique, but I get rather confused when I try imagining myself using a left foot oblique. It seems more right when I use a right foot oblique.

Granted, I only have one fountain pen, and thats just a regular fine nib, so I have no experience with italic or oblique nibs.

EDIT: I think I might know why left foot makes sense... but discussion of this matter might clear this up for me even more.

If you are right handed and the nib is angled to face towards your left side then you are left oblique.

This is one of those questions that are only going to get truly answered by Mr B himself. There are loads of tales here abouts concerning folks who were having problems, went to a Pen Show, wrote something in front of Mr B who then took the pen from their hand, said an incantation over it and returned it to the stunned owner who now found that it wrote like the dream pen they though they would never find cloud9.gif

But my understanding is that the oblique that suits you should be the opposite of your hand, ie Right Handed = Left foot oblique. I bought a cheap Parker 17 off fleabay a while back that has a factory Left foot oblique, and although I can write with it OK after a bit of practice and it gives a nice line variation, I find that getting back to a more normal nib takes a bit of adjustment again. Therefore it does not stay in my rotation, it just comes out for special occasions.

So the answer hidden in this ramble is that you need to have a conversation with Richard B to get the nib that is really going to suit you thumbup.gif
