Hi all,
For those of you who are still deciding on whether you should get yourself an Etruria 991 or not, here is something to make it even more difficult laugh.gif.

A few Etruria 991s:

Some nib shots:

One of these days I hope to achieve a picture quality these pens really deserve biggrin.gif.

Warm regards, Wim

Edit: pics of the same pen twice after all..

Hi,

How come the 0.9 and 1.1 have the same ink spots on them? Just wondering...

Could you please stop posting these pics for about a year. I'm going to pretend I didn't see these and instead stare at my I Castoni for awhile.

Thanks.

hey nice pics Wim

i would have thought that italics nibs the tip would be at an angle. i guess that's only if they are stubs. so what makes it italic is what happens underneath the tip??

Nope, Stubs are straight across also. You're probably thinking about an italic oblique nib. biggrin.gif

Yes!! That's right, it's the obliques with the angle cut nib tips! Thanks Bryan. biggrin.gif So how is a nib a stub versus italic, something is done to them below the tip?? I know stub is not the same as italic.

Hi Centurion,

there is sort of continuum between crisp italic, cursive italic and stub. The former being the one with the sharpest edges and the best line contrast, the latter the most rounded of them.

This page on Richard Binder's site has to be the clearest explanation of the differences and practical applications of these nibs.

The Swisher Stipula is significantly less expensive than the others. It was on clearance tongue.gif

Actually, I'm keeping an eye out for an Etruria which I don't even know exists... a black C/C (only cause I think the piston filler might be too fat for me) with silver trims... How, Master Wim...? Do you know if these existed...? unsure.gif

I get the feeling that pretty soon, Wim will have everyone owning an Etruria each!! laugh.gif

So, Karin, you're new strategy has evolved from taking a hiatus in pen purchases to getting rid of your current pens in order to get new ones, eh? cool.gif

I think that`s going to happen. Once I sold the Tamenuri, I wanted to sell many more pens. Sell, sell, sell, and then buy, buy, (bye-bye)
grasshopper
laugh.gif cool.gif I might follow suit soon, though i don't have that many pens to sell. So it might be a case of pen-buying grossly outweighing the pen-selling.

As far as I know, the original piston fillers were only made in "Grande" format, including the black one. The only "Medium" format Etrurias I am aware of, are the later Etruria Amber ones, i.e., based on the Etruria Amber with big piston converter, and they are c/c pens. They are exceedingly hard to get, though, because they are sold out right now and no longer produced. They come in a silver trim and a vermeil trim version. If I am not mistaken, they were available with the metal caps as well, which means another four versions.

Maybe Dave Mallinder can tell a little more about these.

There was a black Etruria on Ebay a little while ago, with a sterling silver cap. No trim around the end of the barrel, so I assume it was a c/c pen. It was a great-looking pen and I was sorely tempted, but had already ordered my 991 from Susanna - and I wanted the big piston converter anyway tongue.gif

Hi Richard,

Not to worry. That 991 is a magnificent pen, and a great deal too! Just as an inidcation: I visited the local B&M store last Saturday, just for an update on new stuff biggrin.gif, and they had a 991 in, in the luxury box, rather than the standard box, but at 675 euros you can buy almost 3 at Susanna's... biggrin.gif A rather large price difference, just for a bigger box, I think biggrin.gif.

Hi Wim,
I was going to get a .9 stub, but the only options available were the usual F, M, and B.
I got a B so that I can have Richard stub it if I choose to.

I think I saw the same one you're mentioning, Richard. In fact, I saw another one which was an all black C/C with gold trims, so since I've seen a larger all black piston filler with silver trims, I was hoping that there might be a smaller one with silver trims.

Oh well.

Enjoy your 991!!

Actually, on a more serious note, you were right all along. I just checked all 3 sections, and I have clearly mislabeled the pictures. Apologies for not checking that immediately. I only checked the nibs, and to my defense I must say they both had ink spots, of similar inks, in roughly the same places... I guess it'll teach me to look twice, next time biggrin.gif.

I'll edit the original biggrin.gif.

Wim,

to come back to the topic, now that my fixation on pictures switching has been put to rest biggrin.gif, do you have any of the Etrurias that come with silver caps ? Is it an overlay, as it seems to be on the pictures ? Are they as gorgeous as I imagine they are ?

Yes, they are, at least the ones from a year and a half ago or so. There were one or two older ones with proper metal caps, but I have never ever seen one.
QUOTE
Are they as gorgeous as I imagine they are ?
Do you want my honest opinion? No they are not. They somehow are not right. And I don't think they were manufactured for any length of time. They just didn't sell. To be frank, a little piece of the celluloid sticking out from amongst the gold or silver, was just plain ugly, IMO. I won't ever buy one, unless I become a multi-millionaire and a true collector biggrin.gif. But I do have 3 991s, and 2 Nudas, for that matter. laugh.gif
