Hi, Since my 14 YO daughter has always admired my small, but recently growing pen collection, I bought her a gold Cross Pinnacle fountain pen for 'starting' high school. It was bought on Ebay and was in excellent condition. She is very diligent keeping up with it, but a problem has developed with the converter coming loose fom the section. I haven't had a chance yet to get a new converter, but I am wondering if the cartridges would be a better choice? Like her dad, she appreciates and enjoys the aesthetics of filling the pen from the bottle. Thanks.

I have one of these and haven't had any trouble with a loose converter. Maybe call the Cross service center, I've always had good experiences with them. Maybe they'd be willing to replace the converter for free. If not, a new one costs $5, or maybe someone here has an extra one. Just be sure to ask for the green converter.

I had the same problem with my Townsend's converter. I had a Waterman converter which fits the Townsend perfectly, and I'm using that now. So far I've had no problems with the Frankenwatercross.

Call Cross for sure and get a replacement.
I have all 5 of the Pinnacles and the converters fit quite snugly, even though they are a friction fit. You might look at the section end of the converter you have - the only time I ever had a problem with a Cross converter was with one that had a hairline crack at the opening - not enough to leak but enough to make it loose.
Personally I hate using cartridges and Cross cartridges are the only ones that fit (haven't tried that Waterman trick though)
so you're limited to the inks they package.

The Waterman converter seems to work, but there is now some evidence of leakage, so it's not a good solution. It seems to fit snugly in the section, but I think the hole is too large, so ink is flooding into the section around the bottom of the converter. Oh well....
