Full Version: Modern Duofold

In the past few years, I've tried a lot of pens, including most popular models under $300 or so (Pelikan m800/m1000, Omas, Aurora, Stipula, MB, etc) For some reason, though, I'd never owned a modern Duofold. I've always appreciated the shape, vintage styling and finishes of the Duofold line but never reeled one into my pen case.

So, when an early (1988?) Centennial came up on the Greenboard for a nice price, I decided to jump. Apparently, I've been missing out. I'm [i]very[/] impressed! It really is the perfect size for my hand, and the plastic feels and looks wonderful. The nib is a true, firm and smooth medium.

Anyway, I just wanted to deal out some praise for this pen. With all of the gorgeous finishes out there, I'm guessing this won't be my last Duofold.

I completely agree with you, Ryan. I think the early model is more beautiful than actual, and Centennial size fit exactly and balanced in my hand, no posted. I have also a blue marbled International and I'm very satisfied using it posted. I'm waiting for another Centennial red marbled like that in your picture, with a "X" nib:

M nib is too wide for my writing, and Parker xfine nibs are also smooth.
I'm sure that is your first -not last- Duofold.

I have a Medium nibbed Black International and it writes very very nicely.
Its currently in my daily rotation.

I now have five Internationals, four with medium nibs and one with a fine, all some sort of blue colour, also 3 BPs and an MP.

All write very smoothly and I normally work at least one FP into my rotation every 2/3 weeks. I am now tempted by a Centennial if one comes up at the right price.

The modern Duofold is a living legend. It's one of those pens that belong in every collection.

Personally, I prefer the flat-top Duofold of the late 80s/early 90s, but a lot of the later models are interesting as well. Heck, you could have a pen collection consisting of Duofolds only!!

Very nice, Ryan.
