Has anyone come across a pen storage case that has space for anything else relating to fountain pens such as cartridges, converters? It looks like everything I find has only space for the actual pens. It would be nice to keep everything in one place. Thanks.

Make your own out of a cigar box and pen liners.

I found a small wooden chest with two drawers at the Christmas Shoppe. Each drawer is just shy of 7 x 9, and just under 2" deep. It has a nice dark stain with brass accents on the corners and pulls. I picked up some 1/4 x 3/8 square dowels at A. C. Moore. One of the women at our church is a seamstress, so I was able to get some burgandy cordury from her. I cut the dowels to length and superglued them in the top drawer to make slots. Then I lined just the bottom of each drawer with the cordury. That gave me storage for 7 pens in the top drawer and a place for cartridges and a syringe (I refill cartridges) in the bottom drawer. The chest was $13, the dowels $2, the material free. I'm quite pleased with the results. This was my first try at such a project, but given how easy and inexpensive it was, I'll be customizing my own pen chests from now on.

The best pen display/storage I have found is a round pipe holder with a tobacco humidor in the middle. I have to admit I have a sentimental attachment to mine because it belonged to my father. I stand my pens up in the part that held the pipes and I use the humidor to hold my boxes of cartridges. It makes a nice display for my pens on my desk and they are all easy to reach. Lashelle

Almost makes me wish I hadn't given up pipe smoking several years back. I gave away several stands that would have worked and looked great. (My lungs thank me

I actually use two pipe stands that belonged to my father on my desk to hold my pens. The round one that I described in the prior post and one that is just a straight stand. I plan to use another one of Dad's round pipe stands soon because my pen collection has grown beyond the available space in the two I have on my desk now. The best part is they really complement my pens and look nice in my office. The really BIG plus is it is not real easy for someone to just grab a pen out of the stand so I have time to hand a nice ballpoint to clients who need to borrow a pen. As most of my co-workers will tell you I am very protective of my pens. Lashelle

OK, silly thread-jack relating to storing pens in a pipe-stand...
I just picked up a four-pipe stand at the local thrift shop on the cheap, and it's been holding my meager collection on my desk at work. Right now, all four are inked, but is it better to store inked pens horizontally? Before the stand, they all rattled around in my desk drawer. I much prefer having them out, but I don't know if I should use the stand for inked pens, or if it would be better to store the empties upright and use a tray to hold inked ones horizontally.

I am no expert, but in the twenty or so years I have owned fountain pens I have always stored them vertically, nib end up whether they were inked or not. I have not had any problems caused by storing them this way that I know of. I always thought that is how you were supposed to store them and the thought of them rolling around in my desk just gives me the shivers! Lashelle
