I was able to get away from work early today and decided to go by Artlite on the way home. Something just told me to do it.

There they were in the sale display cases...

an Omas Arco Brown fountain pen; and,
a matching Roller Ball.

I think I am done....what a great day!

Good for you! I can understand such days. I received my new Arco less than a month ago and have been using it every day since!

Congrats to you and your new purchase!

Hi Jim

I must know.
I've been using my Omas Paragon old style for close to 2 years and no pen gets to the overall writing ability of this pen.
I heard the new Paragon isnt a good writer as is the old style.
Now since the Arco is a Paragon in different clothing I must know how does it write.
Is it still a very light weight pen or did it gain some waight through the redesign process.
And is the nib as smooth, responsive and flexible as the old style ?

Five months ago I did not own an Omas. Now, #3 is on order and #4 (Christmas gift to self) was located today. I haven't been this giddy over a pen brand since I discovered Pelikan, ah, then Bexley, then Visconti...

Congratulations!

Congratulations on the awesome purchase. I have to digest my current pens, but that's the next one on my list.

The Omas Arco Milord i own is the same weight as my old style Paragon.Writes better actually. The nibs on both are a delight to write with.
And no leaking issues at all.Now my Milord has celluloid all the way to the nib.The new post 2005 Paragon has the gold/metal section which certainly adds quite a bit of weight. And when i tried it at the Portland Pen show this last year,i thought the new Paragon way too large for my hand.
So the Milord was perfect!!!

The nib on the new Milord Arco has only a wee bit o' flex.I really am not into flexible nibs and prefer a bit stiffer tip.So it is just right for me.

Hope that helps.

Jim, at least it works for me....I think this will be my XMAS present, the Milord. wink.gif

I have only dipped it so far but this Paragon 'M' seems to have a bit of flex and line variation.

I am trying to decide what color and brand ink....any suggestions?
I don't want to use anything that might be problematic over a long use.

Thanks everyone.

I used to live in Nashville and made a couple of annual trips to Atlanta. And the discount case at Artlite was the source of many of my first really nice fountain pens- an MB Dumas, a Delta 365, a Parker Duofold black & pearl. Probably others. Last time I passed through town I noticed the deals weren't quite as good as I remembered. Still great, though!

As for the Omas, I have a few Arcos- one in each size. Well, not the little ones. They all share a tendency to discharge their ink into their caps from time to time. If you use a blue or violet there can be a tendency for the threads or sections to get stained. I pretty much only use brown ink. Pelikan Brilliant Brown is my fave.

best,
Doug
