Well my Sahara's just showed up today, so I thought I would post a few pics and some initial thoughts of the pen.

Upon sliding off the drab outer Pelikan box, the orange textured box sure brightened my out look to what lies inside.
The box rates a solid 4 out of 5 stars for color and texture.

Opening the box there is more desert colors and texture. Being a desert dweller from Arizona, I am use to seeing the golden browns and tans of the desert, so the color of this pen was pleasing to me. So was the texure material on the pen. The feel was somewhat rubbery and you feel the texture on the sand waves. I like texure on some pens vs the hard cold plastic feeling of some.

The pen size is simular to the Niagra special edition and has a two tone gold nib.

When you rotate the pen, the sand waves shimmer of a golden color inside the waves.
Here is the pen posted. Weight and balance was typical of this size Pelikan pen.
I did not ink the pen, as it is going into the case for sale. Pelikan did a nice job on this pen,
I can definately see one ending up in my personal collection. happyberet.gif

Interesting color and design. Any idea on the barrel material?
Thank you for sharing.

I'm not wild about the colors but I like the pens looks. The subtle changes sure wake up the traditional Pelikan design. Is this the year for orange boxes or what? First the Pilot box, now this.

Thanks for the photos, enjoyed them.

I miss the ink view windows in the last few models.

Thanks for the nice 'n short review with great pics. I have mixed feelings towards this pen although I love the theme. I wished they had continued their theme onto the nib as well.

You tease, I have been toying with the idea of this pen, or the nigara falls, but am waiting more comprehensive reviews of this model, I think it looks nicer than the falls, but am awaiting more specs, weight, size, etc.
I find the 6xx too small, the 1xxx too big, the 8xx is about right but was rather captivated by this that sweems to be inbetween and 8 and a 6...

Shelley, go to www.richardspens.com he has specs and size comparisons on this and other Pelikan models.
Size wise, it is inbetween the 6xx & 8xx series.

I agree w Tom L. Would like an ink view window. Although it would most likely detract from the beauty.

Simply stunning!!!

Thank you for this nice inital impression review.

I find the review helpful. I only became aware of this pen's existance a few days ago. I guess I had my head seriously into the Thanksgiving weekend. I wonder if this pen is considered a limited edition or a special edition? I think the colors are great. Like some of the others, I am also concerned by the lack of an ink view window, and the physical size of the pen. An M-600 size is only just comfortable in my hand as I find it smallish. An M-800 is much more comfortable. Pen size is important to me because of arthritis and a service connected disability, as well as personal preference. The asking price for this pen is high enough that I need to be sure it will be useable.

But I sure do like the colors of this pen!
PenWorks
Frank, this is a Special Edition series pen.
