I received a letter a few years ago from a friend in Germany which I found recently as I was sorting through old papers. It was written with a fountain pen on some wonderful paper with a Gohrsmühle watermark.
European Watermarks

I'd love to get some of this paper. Is it available in the US, or can it be obtained online. My German isn't good enough to attempt to order it from Germany. And the Euro is outpacing the dollar currently...

The more I look at the watermarks in the link above, the more I'm interested in paper with wonderful watermarks. Do you have some recommendations and sources?

Thanks,
Jared

Hello Jared,

I am from Germany. I know the Gohrsmühle paper very well. Maybe I have some in my desk. When you send me a PM with your adress, I could send you a sheet of paper so you can compare it with the old one. I think Gohrsmühle still has the watermark, but smaller. Even in Germany the paper Qualities have changed (the making is more industrial today) and I don't want you to be disappointed: maybe the paperquality is not still available...
I will take a thumbup.gif look for you.

Best regards,
Anna

Zanders Gohrsmühle is my favorite paper for writing letters. I think it is one of the best papers for fountain pens.

The "Galgo" firm from Spain makes an exceptional FP friendly high quality paper, both on parchemin, gofrado and "verjurado" quality, with the disctinc watermark of a running hound dog and a great variety of colors, as well as stationery. Not cheap stuff, but once you've tried it.....

The manufacturer is UNIPAPEL http://www.unipapel.es/.

The company offers custom made watermaks for large orders -companies, hospitals, etc.- And their web is also in English.
In Spain is widely distributed, but I have never seen it outside here.

Also PApelera Española, Faisán and Guarro, have their watermarks on their ordinary paper. All of them are quite good, but I've always found Guarro and Galgo the best.
