Where can I find a history of the Shaeffer Balance line since the beginning?

Illustrations, models, variations etc. would be welcome.

Thanks

Luigi;

You can get general information but a lot of details are not documented. The patent was filed Novemeber 21, 1928 for the balance shape - so it's a design patent. That's the start. Jim M. has more on his site - penhero.com.

Another good site for info on the Sheaffer Balance is Richard Binder's Pen site.
www.richardspens.com. Look at his site on reference info and you will find a whole bunch of stuff besides reference info. Jim M (www.Penhero.com) is a gret site as mentioned.

Not affiliated with either Richard or Jim but have benefitted from their advice and info on their sites.

In addition to the two excellent links above, here are a couple more....

Rick Conner's Penspotters site has an extensive history of Sheaffer pens, including the Balance, at:

http://www.rickconner.net/penspotters/index.html (just click on the Sheaffer link on the left side of the home page)

And Dave Nishimura's site has a good Balance page too...

Well, there is a fair amount of info in Andreas Lambrou's "Fountain Pens: United States of America and United Kingdom". I don't own his "Fountain Pens of the World" book so I don't know how much info on Sheaffer Balances is in that volume but it is about twice the # of pages as the first book.
This is a "lo-fi" version of our main content. To view the full version with more information, formatting and images, please click here.
